Most modern TV programs about cooking, dancing etc are just not for me, even some of the more interesting ones like nature and modern history getting a bit samey. However, there is a program I think should be watched by every human being, which was shown on BBC2 on Sunday and is available to see on Iplayer........The Search for a New Earth.
I found it the most fascinating and uplifting program I have seen for years and it gave me renewed hope for us as a species. I was surprised at how advanced we are to travel the vast distance required and problems of how to colonise a new world were being tackled........if I was a young man I would definitely try to get involved even though I won't be around to see it happen.

I don't normally go in for "reality TV" type programmes, but "Astronauts: Do You Have What It Takes" is fascinating. They really get put through the wringer .

Before P2P, savers put a guinea in a piggy bank, now they smash the banks to become guinea pigs.

I find TV, especially documentaries, too slow. Most documentaries have about the same content as a good blog post.
I used to watch a lot of TV, but the only regular thing is Game of Thrones now. Sometimes if the missus is binge watching something, I'll see the first and last episode of a series and fill in the blanks with wikipedia.
I do like to watch a movie 2-3 times a week though. From the sounds of it, Interstellar would be a good companion film to the OP's suggestion.

W1A - any similarity to everyone's favourite platform is purely coincidental.

Easily the best series I have ever seen, possibly including the best portrayal of a character I've ever seen - Jamie Hector's Marlo Stanfield.
