Agree with general sentiment of not changing the SM - if it ain't broke... Sure there could be better things, but there's definitely worse things that could be done. One suggestion for dealing with bots would be to introduce Google's reCAPTCHA - another P2P site has done so and it works effectively! (I could be sarcastic and suggest they remove it and hope some idiot with a bot clears out their SM )

Interesting that in the old thread just referred to, ablrate said "No.. that's all good... it is automated scripts for trading... its not going on yet... but we wanted to make sue it doesnt.. no worries we will find a less intrusive way of dealing with it"
So at that time bots were seen as a potential rather than an actual problem. But now it seems that they are here for real, how will they be stopped?
Looking at that thread, it seemed that the problem was the clumsiness of the Captcha, particularly on mobile - surely that's got a lot slicker recently?

Why do people believe that bots are a problem?
There's £5K worth of 1000105 currently sitting on the SM at 99% that would seem to indicate otherwise

There is £12.7k available at 99% now. If this is the underwriter mentioned, and has a preferential rate on the loan (undisclosed), then I do not think they should have immediate access to the SM in competition with proper lenders. (I have none of this one).

Is it the underwriters trying to offload? If so, they must have advantageous terms to be able to sell at 99.0 immediately the loan goes live.

(I have none of this one). Not sure I understand that logic. If an underwriter is happy that deal back some of their margin to those wanting to add to their holdings then I’m not arguing. 1% discount is worth rather more than a few days of Instant Returns. The only risk for Ablrate is that canny lenders start holding back in the hope of buying at 99% after a new loan draws down.

see early posts in this thread I see a couple of people claiming such, but absolutely nothing in the way of any sort of detail to back up the claims. I have picked up some cheap bargains on the SM on more than one occasion - presumably when another user is trying to sell it to their own ISA cheaply. Sometimes even managing to make a debit card deposit in order to do so, so if there are bots they are absolutely bloody useless.
