I personally think the bigger question here is, If say Ratesetter, AC, FC etc had been seen as breaching rules and had to pay back compensation, would they survive and would we still get our capital back?? This is where I really start to question the whole p2p logic. Anyone else? I think that is why you have to diversify across platforms as well as loans. There was much discussion about this on the Zopa forum in the early days because about then some credit card provider had made mistakes with their compliance of the Consumer Credit Act (or similar) and some people who spotted it (many after articles in newspapers) didn't have to pay it back. Similarly Equitable Life was a hot topic at the time. I don't think that it is clear that we would get our money back. (In fact I think it is likely we wouldn't get much back.) Need to include all these sorts of things in the spread over safer investments, and be confident that the managers know what they are doing (obviously not in some cases).

Doesn't the "Statute barred" 6 year rule come under these areas too, recently I have had some defaults with Zopa that have just been marked as "Settled" due to this one, thats what I have been advised. The people still technically owe the money and it can go on their record, I think, but to all intents and purpose they can no longer be taken to court. I think that's it anyway. Don't quote me as I've only just recently come to start looking at this for my Defaults. I keep a close watch and ask what is happening to them, not that I get much back when I do. Zopa is dealing with over 18000 defaults, lets face you would need quite a few people to deal with these. I'm still not sure that Zopa is not just clearing its workload though.

I don’t think “Statute barred” comes into effect if proceedings have started.Otherwise everybody would just delay and delay. A iformed legal opinion would be useful from a non-ambulance chasing lawyer (Just joking)

I did check out the term and it seemed to me that if someone has had no contact with the claims people then the statute of limitations runs out, I assumed that's what they meant. In other words you can't get it through a court if there was no contact for 6 or 12 years, I think. Something to do with the "Limitation Act". To be honest I just looked it up at National Debtline and read the bits on the Limitation Act and Statute Barred. I poked some subsidury questions back at Zopa and am awaiting a response.

<snip> Until we teach our children how to budget, prioritise and have lifestyles that are realistic and achievable and not Peer and competitively driven, then there will always be those trying to survive in their designer trainers and nothing in the fridge.
Truer words never spoken.
They should be printed in bold and given to every schoolkid to take home to their mum and dad. This is the problem today, reality has gone out of sight with celebrity obsession, pushed by the TV people and every no hope kid with the ambition to get on Love Island and make millions from "having" sex in public without making any effort at all.
I have known many famous people through my life and every one of them was completely ordinary and normal. A few examples, my father became a close friend of James Robertson Justice during the war when serving in the RNVR in Scotland. Also as a boy I spent a morning teaching Joyce Grenfell how to catch fish from the rocks in Ireland, she always came to see us when touring in theatre. I spent much of a summer once with a guy called Richard Lyon who had just been jilted by David McCallum who suddenly married his fiancée Jill Ireland, his best friend was Tony Curtis and his parents Ben Lyon and Bebe Daniels, film stars during the 30s.
I know this looks like terrible name dropping but I am trying to show how false the have it all for nothing culture of today really is. I really hate all these bit part actors and any game show contestant being caled stars. It is absolute boll??ks.
Sorry, personal rant over.

Name Dropper , Mind you, I wish i'd met some of those people you mentioned especially JRJ, great actor, nearest I get to any of this is to have been taught at primary school by Roger Waters mother, very nice lady I thought until he wrote The Wall and that immortal line "We Don't need no Education". Perhaps the Floyd were the start of where it all went wrong. I do agree your sentiments, but sadly I still like to watch CBB - after all I'm retired and never cease to be amazed at these peoples ability to get it wrong, perhaps that's life though. Hardeep to win ...

Mind you, I wish i'd met some of those people you mentioned especially JRJ, great actor, Strangely I met him again, I was in the RAF in the 1950s and stationed at Kinloss where I learnt to sail racing dinghies. We were treated as members of the tiny Findhorn yacht club and went to their annual dinner dance. Who should turn up but James R Justice dressed in full highland evening dress with a dagger in his sock and a fine kilt.
He didn't recognise me but I was only 4 when we left Scotland during the war so hardly surprising.

Most of those mentioned were among the Great British actors you could go on forever poor Terry Thomas died in poverty. At least with the internet perhaps the younger ones will come across these these real actors who will be sadly missed unlike Wonga

Can't say I've ever done it - but surely sex in public requires some effort? It's been a few years since I watched live TV, but I won't miss Wonga's TV ads.

but I am trying to show how false the have it all for nothing culture of today really is. ... Let's face it. We always have problems in the real world and we are all different. Some no hope kid commit crimes on streets, some don't. Our society condemns having sex in public, but it's okay for animals to have sex in public for reproduction. It's true our world can be a confusing place. It's so confusing when Wonga explains mortgage on Youtube. Kylie Jenner could be a role model for some for being a billionaire without "having" sex in public, she has her own clothing line and self-owned beauty brand.
