Hello,
I'm with Halifax share dealing and Hargreaves Lansdown to buy shares and stock. But it has limited access to US stock/shares/funds
I'd like to buy the SMHB dividend funds but can't seem to find it.
Anything you'd recommend?
Thanks

Option A : Probably the easiest given the hassles of opening a new brokerage account, especially to just to buy one fund would be to.... Find the ISIN for the dividend fund, pick up the dog & bone to the telephone dealing line and ask the nice people on the other side. It is quite possible that if you are trading through a broker that mostly sends Retail trades via RSPs then you will need a helping hand for anything a bit more obscure.
Option B: I don't know what they are like for funds as I no longer buy funds for my own portfolios and haven't done so for donkeys years, so speaking in very general terms if it's US listed and not available through on Interactive Brokers, then you probably will find it pretty tricky to get hold of. But as I said, funds are a slightly different kettle of fish to equities, so it is quite possible its not listed on IB for other reasons and thus your needs may better served through a fund supermarket. Interactive Brokers is also not for the inexperienced, you won't get a fancy website and you won't get typical Retail levels of hand-holding. You are expected to know your way around the markets. Look for the "contract search" tool on the Interactive Brokers website to see if your fund is available through them (you don't need an account or login to use the contract search tool). Also note that IB will add contracts on demand if not already on their system, but again I don't know if this will be the case for funds too.
Thanks for your answer. But even to buy stock it looks limited? I'd like to buy preferred stock SPKEP but I can only have the common stock SKEP on both HL and Halifax share dealing. Do interactive broker have much more options? Or at least these?

Thanks This might be a side issue, but with HL i had to sign a W-8BEN Form to be allowed to trade US equities, perhaps they don't appear unless you sign it? Not sure if this applies to funds. HL are easy to contact by phone, there is a reason sometimes why some have higher fees!

Why do you want to buy that fund? Stuff like that is for professional short term speculators.
