Miners generally use a lot of high performance processing and are not good for the environment with all the Electricity used, so good to see they have renewables lined up and with a good price I hope. If they are going to cash in on a daily basis then it must be ALT coins they areagoing to mine. This is such a volatile market they could make lots then loose lots all in a matter of days. Bit like P2P only faster! I will be looking for good security as this is a risky business area to be in.

Will be interesting to see what the security entails.
My understanding is that Chinese miners are struggling following the cryptocollapse of 2018, despite having access to some of the cheapest electricity in the world and hardware at the lowest price.
There are publicly available services that perform the same in the moment analysis to maximise mining returns so at this stage I'm failing to see the innovation/USP beyond their custom built units. These units would have to be doing something really unusual to give them a competitive advantage.
Will be an interesting borrowing proposal in any case.

Is this an ethical or socially useful activity worthy of investment?

Is this an ethical or socially useful activity worthy of investment? IMO yes. Crypto has weathered the barrage of cynicism and ignorance show by established currency traders and is now being taken very seriously by regulators and authorities on both sides of the pond. While there is still substantial risk between which specific cryptos will survive, the blockchain technology behind crypto looks like it's here to stay. There is a question behind the energy and resource usage of crypto mining however as this investment shows, as the market grows innovations will take place to address and minimise negative impacts. Another recent innovation example (and i can't for the life remember who it is) is a large American hardware firm offering payment in tokens to gammers (with decent processing capabilities) to utilise unused background processing power to crypto mine, ie. using existing infuersture. So ethical, yes. It's no less ethical then the existing currency system. Socially, yes. The potential positive social impact of a decentralised currency system is mind boggling huge (invention of the internet kind of huge). And worthy IMO yes. Buts it's your money its up to you what choose to invest in.

Not too sure how chattel mortgages work, perhaps someone could kindly explain in brief simple terms. Continuing the coal analogy, what would happen, if for whatever reason, coal became a dirty word? Presumably the bottom would fall out of the market, the mining equipment would become scrap and the security would be worth nothing more than a hole in the ground?

Chattel mortgage is a legal term used to describe a loan arrangement in which an item of movable personal property is used as security for the loan. The movable property
