JC tried to buy the youth vote before by offering free university places for those not fortunate enough to live in Scotland. He now is trying to bribe youths with £10 an hour pay hoping those not yet old enough to vote would pressurise their parents and older siblings into voting Labour.
What happens now? Employer can employ 2 youths to carry out work at an affordable rate. The have no skills or life experience but the are cheap so they get a job.
If wages more than double to £10 an hour the employer can no longer afford them. Their choice would be employ 1 older person with experience and life skills with the hope they can perform more efficiently and allow the business to continue.
Result 2 younger people unemployed. It is only sensible unless you are a student of Labour maths that employing someone older more experience in life and interpersonal relationships would be a greater asset than a less attractive youth for the same money.
The NHS pays incremental rises based on experience why should we expect hard pressed business not to offer similar pay policies.
Rather than the Marxist everyone is equal. So let’s do that Jeremy, you can have £10 an hour and additional current salary can go to buy the unicorns you will no doubt offer the 5 year olds.

And here we have 'spreadsheet Phil' Hammond proposing the world's highest minimum wage. Cynically I wonder if it's a real desire to help those at the low end of the wage scale, or having accepted the Tories can't fix the NHS, defence, policing, schools etc. he's gone for "vote for us, we'll give you more goodies than Labour"

Look at the tables on p10 and 11 of... www.livingwage.org.uk/sites/default/files/Calculating-a-Living-Wage-for-London-and-the-rest-of-the-UK.pdfThe current £9/hr (outside London) is made up from rates from £6.35 (childless couple) to £19.05 (single adult, three children). Inside London, the £10.55 is made up from £7.80 (couple, one 3-4yo) to £21.10 (couple, four kids). So even paying "the living wage" isn't going to ensure everybody receives "a living wage", while the current £8.21 minimum wage is 30% above "a living wage" for many. A couple both working 37.5hr for minimum wage are earning over £32k before tax, nearly £29k after.
