On my occasional postings in this Forum, I sometimes whinge about financial organisations.
(I could today, actually, having made two attempts to register for on-line banking with one such with which I've invested money. I had to provide answers for NINE security questions, and at the end of it all got a certificate of interest for all of 0.1p from an easy-access account that accommodates a refund of the fee I paid my High-Street bank to transfer funds to a deposit account.)
Today I got a letter from Civil Service Pensions telling me that it had been paying me too much pension, because of incorrect information about my Guaranteed Minimum Pension.
"In recognition of the fact that the overpayment is not your fault and you could not have known you were receiving an incorrect amount, you will not need to repay any money."
For last year the overpayment was £800 and I've been getting a Civil Service pension for ten years ...
The situation is not restricted to the Civil Service. "An exercise recently took place across the pension industry to reconcile pension information held by all private and public sector pension schemes and Her Majesty’s Revenue & Customs (HMRC). The aim of the GMP Reconciliation Exercise was to ensure that pension schemes hold the correct information regarding members’ contracted-out service."

You get overpaid (Civil Service pension), their mistake and get to keep it. Today I found out that I got undercharged (Council Tax), their mistake, and have to pay it back.

Thank you very much, I do appreciate it!
The overpayments do make me feel a bit better after weeks of cringing about how much money the BREXIT progress is wasting, not to mention HS2 and the failed part-privatisation of the Probation Service, and then there's ...
Rest assured that I spent your money in a far more fruitful way.

Rest assured that I spent your money in a far more fruitful way. No, I'm fairly sure I'd have spent it FAR more fruitfully...
