I went across the road to the pub opposite to watch the England innings. My neighbours, Australians, had stopped watching it, but were still out and about in the garden and with the back door open. So I left TMS on the radio, turned up a touch. For their benefit obviously .

I'm quite glad they had the teaball, gruntball and high-speed-traffic all on the same day. It means I can ignore three sports at once. But the bigger problem is that it simply feeds into this kind of pathetic base nationalism.

That was the most insane game of cricket I've ever seen. And will likely ever see. The Kiwis deserve an awful lot of respect for the brilliant sportsmanship they displayed (not to mention their bowling and fielding which was outstanding).

I don't like cricket. I suspect many enjoy it for the cerebral pleasure of watching taunt stretched material, while sitting in the sun drinking. Ditto golf/tennis. Nationalism is quite fun, albeit noisy at times. Hate those tracky bottoms they wear now. I spent Sunday spraying my rose beds for blackspot and rust and squashing greenfly..

I have little interest in watching sports but I just drank my coffee while watching the highlights of the WC final. Looked impressive and while I didn't notice which the teams were in it (Blue and Black or was it Uber and Samsung hard to tell) looked like a draw. "Well done everyone".

Oh well, looks like the glory didn't get as far as the test match side.
England won the toss and chose to bat, but were all out for 85 in their first innings against the mighty Ireland.

Good job that Ireland didn’t manage to qualify for the World Cup, else they’d probably have embarrassed us there too (again!)

Meanwhile down at Southampton, some of the Australians are doing slightly better, just slightly, against weaker opposition. Could be a lot of very short Test matches in the Ashes
