So i managed to ring the HMRC, call lasted about 20 minutes with quite a bit of preamble both selecting the right text to speak to get the call directed correctly, probably took about 5 minutes on that bit what with all the security info i had to pass to get through. Spent a further 10 minutes waiting to be passed to someone who can deal with my issues. (I have to say their voice recognition is better than it used to be considering the security questions asked. I was also asked to confirm my full name and postcode when I finally spoke to a nice lady called Mary. I'm guessing she only sees a small part of the security info i was asked though.
To be fair to Mary, despite wanting to help, she was not really able to explain why the details were not available for my recent 20/21 return when the HMRC said my tax was ok!. She did promise to send further details of my return in a separate letter though - I'm not sure it won't just repeat that tax for the period is complete and nothing further to do!.
Moving on to the more thorny issue of the 2019/21 return having stalled. She did find a note that suggested HMRC have had an issue and were working on what has caused it. She did not think it was just me but i think the note she had was not very detailed just that there was a "known" issue they were currently working on.
I must admit after the call it occurred to me that she might have meant she would send details of what i can see online but we'll see. She did agree with me that it was odd they could complete 20/21 year without taking into consideration the previous 2019/20 return but I don't really hold out any hope they will get it fixed soon but time will tell.
I did clarify that I would not be expected to tell the HMRC any further information for this 2019/20 return and I asked that she documented she had both said that and that I had clarified this issue. She said she would be doing just that when the call was finished. I also recorded her Name, Date, Time and Duration of the call but then I always do that for all important calls that I make and want some form of action taken.
I'm not confident this call has or will make a difference but i guess we'll see.
