3 hundred yards up the road the new stay at home holiday makers are wedged in what is normally horse fields sharing portaloo , drinking bottled water, at £30 a night .Thats triple last years rate, in the rain again, nearest pub over a mile. This UK based holiday thing is really going to catch on, its the future. Who wants those cheap sun, sea, sex and beer foreign holidays when you can huddle in your tent and play cards or i spy until going to the take away which has raised its prices by over 50%. Book a meal elsewhere, your be lucky , oh ps no mobile coverage on site does not help in the booking meal compition stakes. I suppose most brits abroad drink bottled water too. Yes My Local Pizza place has raised it's prices by about 40% in the last year very little difference now to the big chains Mind you just looked at the meal deals adding a can of coke to a pizza adds a minimum of £2 to the Pizza price frustrating that a takeaway here can be more expensive than a restaurant mean in Greece, and as to going to a Greek restaurant here we are talking at least 3-4 times the price of eating in a Greek restaurant in Greece. Have to be fair though and say one of the best holidays I ever had was on a campsite with very limited facilities in Great Yarmouth

Normally I'd fly but this year ... So normally 2 weeks in Greece etc allowing for meals etc £1000 per person ( I prefer to wander for meals rather than All Inclusive ) I have seen All inclusive for when I want to go at < £1000 for 2 of us . Looking at places in the UK looking at £1500 just for accommodation. Price of a drink Greece €4 UK £5. It may be greener etc to stay in the UK but it will cost a whole lot more. 3 hundred yards up the road the new stay at home holiday makers are wedged in what is normally horse fields sharing portaloo , drinking bottled water, at £30 a night .Thats triple last years rate, in the rain again, nearest pub over a mile. How does that work with social distancing (which reminded me of the old nursery rhyme about my friend Billy).

We're going to Greece in a couple of weeks, and we're expecting the pub/ restaurant prices to be about 10% less than the UK. Of course, there's the cost of the flights and the Covid tests to take into account. We just got back from a mid-week break in W Berks where we stayed in a lovely village pub. Incredible value, superb rooms and food, and dog-friendly too.

Having just spent 6 weeks in Greece (and having been a regular visitor several times a year for 25 years), I can tell you Greek prices are rocketing, especially in the areas with most tourism like the Islands, and made worse by the continued devalued pound (albeit it hurts a bit less at 1.16/1.17 than when it was under 1.10).

You will get a bottle of Amstel/Mythos for 4 Euros, or a glass of house wine, but nothing else. Even the 500 ml carafes of house wine are 5-9 Euros now (used to be 4-5 Euros a litre). 500 ml of draft beer - 5 Euros average. fresh juice - 5-6 Euros. any other type of non-standard beer - 5-7 Euros a bottle. cocktail - 9-12 Euros bottle of wine - 20 Euros and up. anything in a fancy place - much more. But maybe in the mass market package tourist areas the drinks are cheaper and targeted at a high drinking audience - I don't know as I don't go there. I'm giving you Cyclades/Athens prices.

Hells Bells 2 years ago Crete and Corfu Local Beer €2.50 much nicer than mythos, or alfa. Juice seems about right British or German beers €7.50 ( and boy do some brits moan ) Cocktails usually about 7 but I don't drink them Bottle of wine in restaurant about 10, one did do a 500ml carafe at 2.50 water Pack of 6 2 litre bottles €2

I'll stick with self-catering in Spain - beer 21 cents per can, quite decent wine €1.60 a bottle.
And 2 loungers and a good umbrella purchased for €65...

Cocktails at 7 Euros are going to be pretty basic and in a dodgy bar. I think Crete may be a bit cheaper. Then again it is the last 2-3 years (or maybe 5, my memory isn't what it used to be) that prices really have increased in the islands.

And don't get me started on the price of an umbrella and a couple of loungers. 50 Euros for the first row, 40 for the rest?
Or 25 Euros at the back on a budget beach.
I prefer trees and a towel.
