Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe on way home to UKWoohoo !!!!! Bloody marvellous. Though god knows what deal we've done with that regime to get it done. A few more still out there though. I hope she is going to be showered in the right kind of mental health support: she is going to need it. She and everyone need to think about their holiday destinations more carefully, autocratic Iran or democratic Brighton ?

That may be so: but its a rather natural human inclination to want to take your young daughter/son out to see their grandparents. And at the time, I don't think it was quite so obvious that they were going to start using British / Joint nationals as hostages. I know a couple of friends/relatives that have visited Iran in recent times.

One of the other dual-nationals held prisoner in Iran for the last few years (four in his case). There's a third British-Iranian amongst them, Mehran Raoof (arrested 2020). For the British dual nationals, it's over the UK's £400m debt going back to a 1970s arms deal... Boris Johnson agreed the amount and that it needed paying back in 2017, whilst Foreign Secretary. It's finally been paid, prompting the release. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-60098576

You'd have to had your head in the sand for the last few years not to know she's being held hostage for that payment. Re.: "its finally been paid". Its not obvoius yet that it has been 'paid' as such. Clearly some deal has been done which involves recompense for that quite legitimate debt, but so far no reporting of what has been done. And I hope there is no such reporting until they are both on safe ground.

I used to arrange for technicians to visit Iran after US sanctions were first imposed. The negotiations were long and we sent them in from Dubaii to one of Iran's islands before transfer to the mainland. Pay was elevated but actually the National Guards were pretty sensible people.
I would never have sent anyone one of my lads there like the family did to themselves.
I am very pleased she/they are coming home, but really!
