Going back to my previous post, i cannot understand why a clear-out of the chat section is not made, most of the stuff in there does not need to be retained in perpetuity, 90% of the chat section is fun/rubbish/not needed, and that's coming from me, i love the chat section, but once its been read, bin it and free up some space for a new thread.
edit:- after a quick scan, i think most of the main threads would not suffer too much from a general clean up, there are loads of non-relevant sub threads that would not be missed. This is not a personal view by me of any threads, it's just a suggestion on how to free up some space where needed.

If this forum is going to rely on other services, then there is no guarantee that those images are going to be available for any length of time. Then upload them to your own webspace (at your ISP, at a free webhosting site) and link them from there. Just seen this thread. Virgin Media have already told us they are withdrawing our webspace before the end of April I had very limited facility there but at least it was enough for my needs. I don't "play" (much) on the internet. They want us to use GoDaddy (or GayDaddy as that nice young lady on the TV advert says) which will cost quite a lot after the first year (which may well be worthwhile for those who will use it a lot). I'll have a look at the alternatives mentioned upthread.

Testing imgur.com/T6LXf6tThat was really easy. Just go to imgur.com, click on "upload images", browse computer for the image, click on open, and upload it. I then just copied and pasted the link to the page. As the OP says, there is no need to sign up. Sorry it's not a fun picture

If that was meant to be a graph of annual house figures since the 1950s it was but there were also about half a dozen none relevant images when I clicked on the link.

I have a relevant banner advertisement across the top in this case Dial a Flight Australia.
Then the house graph and to the right 6 images labelled Most Viral Images sorted by popularity

I just tried the link on my wife's PC. She sees what you are seeing. Presumably everyone but the original poster gets to see the junk. Either that or my ad blocker blocks it all.
I suppose the "free" service has to be paid for somehow.

Well you could right click the image, do "Open image in new tab", then paste that jpg or image url (http://i.imgur.com/T6LXf6t.jpg) into the "Insert image" back here ? : [...] Doesn't that save the image to this forum's server, which defeats the object?

Thank you, got it now. In Firefox: 1. Right-click the image you have uploaded to imgur 2. Select "Copy Image Location" 3. In my post here, click on the Insert Image icon, paste in the url, and insert. I won't do it again because the image was not very exciting the first time . Mods - can I suggest complete instructions (including how to do the upload) are stickied somewhere easy to find rather than having them in the middle of a thread?

simply click on insert image and then upload. That's it!! No, because that takes up hosting space on the forum. That's exactly what should NOT be done.

Well, that is almost what should be done, just a bad choice of terminology. fallon omitted to say that after clicking on "insert image", the URL where the image is hosted should be entered, then click "insert image". This will hot-link the image into the post. What should be avoided is the "Add Attachment" button which will upload a file to the forum server. The opening post by registerme explained this very well, I thought.
