Or, perhaps, living in the past? Those might be the prices 'when I last bought a house' ? I thought that the house prices looked quite reasonable (for where I live - I realise that great swathes of the south of the country, and the Manchester and Leeds stockbroker belts, are more expensive). It was the holiday/consumer durables that I thought looked overpriced. And the "savings bank account" looked ridiculously small.

I saw something on the MSE website recently that referenced a set of stats showing average household savings was <£2K (quite a bit under I think) so not that unreasonable an amount for Savings Account territory.

My statistics is pretty rusty these days but since we're counting discrete "events" wouldn't we expect a Poisson distribution? Or maybe there's just something fishy going on.

What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.

Culturally the British do not like to talk about their income or their money. Hence I suspect most of the numbers will be "wrong"

How secure is a forum and the personal information held by a forum?

/mod hat off ... Unofficial answer
Less secure than Hilary Clinton's emails, more secure than the phone directory, although what you answered in a poll does not seem to be easily crackable from here .. proboards can probably get to it if the NSA asks them.
In general I personally assume the worst. Your (future) employer will see your online contributions. Another good reason to be polite and constructive. 8>.

How secure is a forum and the personal information held by a forum? The staff of this forum will always operate according to UK law with respect to the disclosure of personal information of forum members and such disclosure will generally be following a court order to do so. However, the forum is hosted in the USA by proboards (who have access to more information on forum members than do forum staff), and they wil be governed by US law with respect to disclosure. Unless you specifically set out to hide what you are doing on the internet (and maintain that discipline 100% of the time, there must be zero lapses in concentration) then it is pretty safe to assume that anything you do on the internet can ultimately be traced back to you as an individual. Given this thread contains a poll, it is perhaps worth repeating the point that forum staff can see who voted in the poll but not which way they voted. However proboards can, so HMRC would need to follow legal process in the US to determine the option selected by each poll voter, but a UK court order would be sufficeint to determine who most of the poll voters are. You will need to do your own research as to whether proboard forums are susceptible to hacking.
