As per the title , anybody knows how many loans in total has the platform had? I take it the only default one up to now is one of the containers ?

Thank you. So it is about 2% default rate. If one had invested £5000 in those 50 loans at about 12% one would have earned about £600 a year and lost those £200 invested in defaulted loans resulting in £400 gain. It means a return of 8%. Just trying to figure out what type of p2p/ platform would make sense.

Not exactly. 1. The containers had paid some interests. Maybe far in the future some principal will be paid, too. 2. You better estimate 2-3 years.
So 10%+ is a good guess so far if you are a pound based investor.

This is all a bit odd. The loan numbers drawn down go up to 74, though some have repaid, but 2 out of 74 is the proportion of loans defaulted historically. However, the percentage of losses by value is much less because, fortunately, the container loans were small in value - I do not know how much was defaulted because it is not visible to me, but I thought £100k or so. Statistics do not really apply to practical experience of losses on Ablrate, because of the small number of loans over a long period. So far your losses are zero or considerable, depending on whether you had the container loans (which were hard to get). And I thought Ablrate had made some comforting statements about recoveries. This is one platform where past losses are no guide at all to future performance. Given the low number of loans and the smaller number of borrowers, it is more important, imo, to consider what might happen in the future, and to look hard at the asset security offered, tied to individual loans.

Why it's a proper market with bid and offer spreads well worth trading I consider myself an investor rather than a trader. Platform differences are a good thing. I'm not suggesting it should be changed.

Just trying to figure out what type of p2p/ platform would make sense. As blender rightly points out, past performance is no real guide... More importantly I think, ABL is very different from other platforms, and should really be considered quite "advanced." Particularly from a tax perspective - for example if you are already liable to report on capital gains you should make sure you understand the tax position first (documented in the FAQ), because if you are it's a LOT of faff reporting it. If you're not then it's a good way to use up some of your CGT allowance without needing to worry about it.

Looks nice... I just wish my account had similar numbers! Also, I like the 'open isa' button!
