hi coolbeans, i dont think such a thread exits or even that one could exist. all the platforms work slightly differently and all have different uses. probably better if you have a look around on this forum then ask questions about individual p2p lending sites

Hi, could any please point me in the right direction of a beginners for starting out in p2p lending thread please? Thanks in advance Theres many good reviews available, which will quickly allow you to determine which platforms match your risk, return and term preferences. Try... www.4thway.co.uk/learn-info/www.financialthing.com/p2pblog.co.uk/#Latest_PostsNB. The industry is continually changing, so what was true 12 months ago may well be substantial out of date now, especially as the FCA seem to be demanding that some practices be changed to gain Full FCA approval. So view newer reviews as more reliable.

Thanks again everyone. So far i think i am set on Abirate and Moneything. Do these sound like good choices? Any recommendations on a third platform for more diversification?

You will find that most people posting here are typing challenged. As you claim beginnership, I'll give you a starter: "Col" means "Collateral".

coolbeans, which type of p2p are you interested in? And what is your time frame (horizon) for investing?

I don't particularly have a time frame. I do not mind long term investments at all. I would like to be at the lower risk end of the scale... So i am looking for lower risk p2p investments. I currently have signed up to Moneything, Abirate and Collateral. Just trying to get the jist of things at the moment before making any investments. What sort of investments would be classed as lower risk in p2p. Is there a guide for the secondary market as i am finding it quite complicated starting out? Thanks

Thanks Whilst I like all three of those platforms I'm not sure any of us would consider them to be be lower risk! They are at least secured on assets but the rates are high for a reason. That's not to say don't use them, but make sure you diversify to minimise impact when a loan goes wrong (as they will)

Thanks IMO you have selected three sites at the higher risk end, if you genuinely want lower risk you could look at Assetz provision fund protected accounts QAA, 30DAA, PSIA, GBBA, GEIA which as well as having the benefit of a provision fund are all based on security backed loans. Alternatively LendInvest are generally considered to offer lower risk property backed loans, and Archover Secured and Insured loans are an alternative to all the property.
