After gently stumbling over the age of 55 last week I gave Zurich Assurance a call to find out how to free up a bit of tax free cash from my non DB pension fund left over from my time as a publican for Grand Met.
They told me that they can not do that (just annuities, and I am far to young for that) , so I must transfer the pot to someone else.
The pot is just shy of 200k.
The tax free lump would go on
1. A new Ducati ( I really do need a new bike as the Kwak is 8 years old) 2. S&S ISA 3. into P2P
leaving 150k ++
HL look expensive but very helpful tilney bestinvest seem a bit dear but do offer some good tools etc Iweb or or interactive investor look like the about cheapest but you do all the work.
I would not need too much on-going hand holding but some help when first setting my investments up would be useful.
So, who have you used and in a non investment advice way , would you recommend them?
How good / easy are the online platforms ?
How good / easy are the communications ?
How good is the range od funds / investments on the site ?
A huge thank you to anyone who replies with useful answers , and thank you for your time
Stuart

Ed gave us this answer back in Feb..

I have just received a response back from our Partner:
"In the event of default, any non-hallmarked items would be taken to the assay office for hallmarking before being disposed/retailed."
Hope this answers your question.
Kind regards,
Ed
Not really. This is saying that non-hallmarked items may be of any value or gold purity, down to negligible gold content, so valuations for non-hallmarked items may be widely off the mark. In which case, why accept them for loans?
I am sure that the pawn brokers that take this stuff in for loan security are not mugs, and would test any unmarked gold with a simple touchstone test. www.gia.edu/gia-news-research-bench-tips-09
A few years ago a customer at one of my pubs told me that he had taken an unmarked Turkish gold necklace in to be pawned and they tested the purity with this rub on the stone and acid method, he got more than he expected as it was 22ct instead of the 18 he ct thought it was.

Morning,
Just following up from my first post in reference to the query regarding Hallmarking.
I have just received a response back from our Partner:

Hope this answers your question.

Bit of a pity that it's not the done thing to 'name and shame' one or two over eager investors... Hmm, sounds like a game to be played. Replace the asterix with 3 letters, funniest doesnt win a prize £1400 on the two in total for someone called s***e or .. £1400 on the two in total for someone called *hyt*

Just got the email on this one, and as I am holding some of the lenders defaulted previous loan I am not going to be renewing my investment in this one..
We will be posting a new loan tomorrow, Friday 27th February, at 12 noon. This loan is a renewal of previous loan ID: 644445033. The loan is for £20,000 secured against a large collection of art. The loan is offering interest to savers of 13% pa Savers will be restricted to a maximum bid of £500 for the first 24 hours. Roll-Over Requests If you have an investment in loan ref 644445033 you have the option of rolling-over the capital into the new loan which will be for a maximum period of 6 months. The interest will, in any case, be paid into your account, Click here for further details NOTE: In the interests of full disclosure the borrower has previously defaulted on loan ID: 654474218 At the time the previous loan was due the borrower was in a difficult financial position and the loan defaulted. The paintings from that loan (also Lubins) are in the process of being sold to recover funds. However as the borrower is now in a better financial position they have repaid the interest due, to renew this loan for a further six months..

I have signed up as well.
I am very impressed with the response time from them,
I had a small problem with the deposit page not accepting numbers with a decimal point and thus resetting the reference numbers needed for the bacs transfer. But I had already sent the deposit from my bank.
I sent them an email about it at 10.20pm.
Ed Pearce (The Boss) emailed me at 10.41pm from his iPhone to say that a fix was being uploaded tonight, the capcha puzzles were in the process of being removed to make things easier and that he would reconcile my deposit with the incorrect reference in the morning .
Now that is quick work..

The Highways Agency found over 200 dead crows on the M4 near Bridgend recently, and there was concern that they may have died from Avian Flu.
A Pathologist examined the remains of all the crows, and, to everyone's relief, confirmed the problem was NOT Avian Flu.
The cause of death appeared to be from vehicular impacts. However, during analysis it was noted that varying colours of paints appeared on the ...bird's beaks and claws. By analysing these paint residues it was found that 98% of the crows had been killed by impact with lorrys, while only 2% were killed by cars. The Agency then hired an Ornithological Behaviourist to determine if there was a cause for the disproportionate percentages of truck kills versus car kills.
The Ornithological Behaviourist quickly concluded that when crows eat road kill, they always have a look-out crow to warn of danger.
They discovered that while all the lookout crows could shout "Cah", not a single one could shout "Lorry"

This has just arrived from FS..
The Powerboat loan has now attracted 72% of funds and the borrower is anxious to complete by Friday December 19. Therefore, with immediate effect, we are offering improved terms. A bonus of 2% interest p.a is offered on any investments in excess of £10,000. This means that any savers who invest £10,000 or more will earn interest at 15%!
This bonus applies to anyone who has already invested more than £10,000.
