As suggested by someone in another thread about Bling I thought I would give Unbolted a go.
As part of the KYC process they offered me to use a tool called TrueLayer. This reads my bank details. It has asked for User Id, Password and Memorable Word. Just before I give it up and am then on watchdog for being a mug has anyone used this?

Stop, proceed no further with your registration and phone the Unbolted office in the morning. Never give out this personal Banking security information, nope never. I know - seems really dodgy. Stopped me in my tracks Link to what I was asked for imgur.com/DsiTqPq

Stopped me in my tracks Italian/ Switzerland owners. Possibly legit but best to contact the company as magenta suggests. If you have already submitted anything then email unbolted straight away. They monitor till very late.

Will contact them first thing and update here what they say.

I suspect that this is actually legit, however the principle of “if it feels wrong, stop and contact the platform directly” is a good one.
For general reference though, PSD2 and open banking is coming next year. You will be able to integrate your banking with Facebook for example. Not something I’ll be doing but it will be a game changer.

May be legit but these systems and what is proposed next year gives me the collywobbles, must be part of being a grumpy old git, but I will not be linking my accounts.

Completely goes against 'never give out your details' which they harp on about constantly.
Cyber criminals must be rubbing their hands!

Funtimedave. What was the outcome of your enquiries in the end please? Hello - Unbolted only replied today. The email is copied below in its entirety 'If you feel uncomfortable sharing the information via true-layer, you can send us a bank statement and we will be happy to use it as proof of bank statement. ' So I can send them a bank statement as proof of bank statement - you can't argue with that logic. No real mention of understanding my enquiry.

The email is copied below in its entirety 'If you feel uncomfortable sharing the information via true-layer, you can send us a bank statement and we will be happy to use it as proof of bank statement. ' I would strongly advise customers of Unbolted use this method of sending them a copy of your bank statement, showing your name, address, bank name, sort code and account number only - redact everything else on it (transaction history/balance/overdraft limit, etc) I would strongly advise against verifying via TrueLayer - having dug a little further into the TrueLayer API, once you grant access to the API, the website (in this case Unbolted) can view pretty much view everything on your bank account (including all accounts, balances, transaction history, associated cards and their balances/transactions too). This is NOT required simply in order to verify your identify/bank account, so don't allow Unbolted (or any other website for that matter) unrestricted view access to your bank accounts via "TrueLayer" in this way.

I just signed up and saw this truelayer link. I do not think i have ever seen anything so dodgy in a very long time. Even the format is something out the 80s. Oddly enough, since you need a lot more than such simple details to access say an hsbc account i’m not sure what they are hoping to achieve! I’ll carry on with unbolted since it is clearly used by many here; but crikey, that was a shocker.

Yikes, that's enough to put me off signing up. Is provision of bank statement/details needed for all Unbolted account openings now or just cases where they can't do electronic verification via other means. I never came across this when signing up on other platforms...

Do note it is clear you can upload a copy of your bank statement instead. Thankfully.
