My debit card payments have been instant, 7 days a week. Maybe I'm getting preferential treatment.....
Kevin.

Available to invest within a minute last Saturday. Perhaps not instant but close.

Yes, it is instant. So why does the website suggest that a deposit will take up to a day to appear?

Likewise on the 3 or 4 occasions I have used it, including today.

Well when i got the message that it'd be within a day so i closed up for the day - yes it is the message that seems wrong - every other platform that takes debit cards credits instantly Jack P

Not quite sure how the banking process works but all my DC's get paid instantly although they don't dissapear from my bank balance. They are reserved somehow so if I have £1000 in the bank, pay a DC of £100 my balance remains at £1000 but with only £900 available . The actual balance can take up to 3 days to reflect the true amount . I assume therefore that RS don't truly have the cash at that point so there is an element of goodwill in crediting the account.

I believe this goes back to when Debit Cards were introduced and began to replace cheques. The time a cheque took to clear meant you had paid for something, but the money did not leave your account for a couple of days giving some cover to avoid a possible overdraft and Bank Fee penalties. A promise was made by the Banks to protect Debit Card payments for a similar clearing cycle. With a Debit Card (Guessing here) the money is paid immediately and reserved on your Bank account, but it is not deducted from your balance for 2 or 3 days so you would not incur penalties if overdrawn.
