I have decided to pledge 10% of all returned 'distressed' capital, which means all that is presently stuck in Collateral, to be lent out through KivaTake a look around the Kiva website, see what you think. Check out other threads here and here. Any fellow pledgers out there? You can sign up to the P2P team here

I thank you for bringing Kiva to my attention because I will admit that I was not aware of it previously and I have viewed the website. I am very glad that you have decided to support those projects and I hope others will follow your lead.
Like most of us,I am sure, there are a couple of charities which are very close to my heart because of my own personal life experiences and I support them regularly with regular donations. Unfortunately it is impossible to support every charity that is doing great work and great research and providing fantastic support for people in need both in this country and around the world because our pockets are not bottomless. So while I will continue to support my own charities that mean so much to me in terms of what they do I am not going to make a similar noble pledge to Kiva as you have done but that is in no way to detract from what they do and the projects they fund and I thank you for thinking of those less fortunate than ourselves and those who are in need and I hope Kiva can continue to make a real difference to people's lives.

Kiva are a good bunch, I work in the development field and have invested/lent through Kiva quite a lot over the last 3-4 years. They help to bring down the cost of borrowing (NB IIRC borrowers still pay interest and fees to the micro-finance intermediaries) but it is very worthwhile. The website and dashboard is also pretty nice to follow where you have co-funded a loan. Highly recommended. I will also be happy to put in some funds if/when Collateral returns come good.

I used to lend through Kiva, but stopped back in 2010.
When I first started they were happy for me to loan money interest free for micro-finance, but I noticed a distinct change in attitude whereby I was constantly being badgered for contributions too. I cannot support every charity on the planet, and I thought I was doing enough for them with interest free loans (and writing off the occasional default), while my cash contributions were going to other causes.
While I obviously don't begrudge the fact that they have to raise cash to cover operating costs as well as loans, I got fed up of the insinuation that "just" loaning wasn't enough for them. I know there were others who felt the same as me at the time.
I may have another look at them to see if their attitude has changed in the interim...
