Why does this thread have an anchor icon? I thought it was cockney rhyming slang re the OP

Dont remember them being published. Completely different set up now to when this was originally posted. OP was a known troll and departed forums soon after. I would suggest posting your specific question in the Q&A thread. Whether the OP was a troll or not I think is irrelevant; the question was a valid one and something I have also often wondered about. I can understand the mechanisms of vetting the security itself and establishing an LTV etc however how can one be absolutely sure whether SS (or any other p2p company) has a 1st charge on it? Especially if the borrower borrows internationally? In the case of bankruptcy, there will be a queue of people asking for the security and the LTV might become irrelevant. It does seem plausible that if a 'high-net worth' individual needs to borrow at 12%+ then he is likely to be a distressed borrower, no?

One can absolutely sure by looking at the appropriate land registry documents, as discussed elsewhere. It will cost you money (but not a lot). If it worrits you, there are other investments which yield lower headline rates but with higher safeguards.
