I joined ZOPA in 2006. It was exciting back then and very much a fringe activity. One of the criticisms levied at the P2P industry was that it had not been tested by the crisis/credit crunch - but actually it has. I had high bad debts then but a lot have been repaid and overall performance has been pretty steady across the business cycle.

I think Zopa was the only lender in the UK that went through the crisis? Zopa in the UK, Prosper in the US I think were the only 2 that made it through the crises if I'm not mistaken? Both of which give mostly consumer loans.
It will be interesting to see how some of the business lenders like Assetz and Funding Circle will do in the next crisis. Not sure if they'll be better or worse than consumer loans. Any thoughts or insight on that as a long-time experienced lender?
It's something I wonder a lot about.....
