Halifax used to offer £5 a month with strings attached. iirc the "strings" offset the benefit so I didn't bother to join, but when they offered £100 joining bonus I went for it and later switched it to Yorkshire/Clydesdale for £250 bonus. It has been useful to have extra bank accounts ready for switching on few occasions. Halifax even gave us the £100 on existing accounts as long as we transferred an external account in with DD's etc to one of our Hfx accounts we did that too, it was restricted to one piece of that pie each but none the less we both did that as well. ... Sadly it's still available but the returns and the loss of easy DD's means we have moved on with most of them. The other useful thing is that closing accounts was always harder than opening new ones - they don;t like you to close accounts - but again we've recently been using the switching process to do this as well. We've moved on now mostly but for almost 10 years those were very Happy Days for self funded retiree's like ourselves - Happy Days !.. At least marcus does not require DDs. I think NatWest offers best cashback for real "household" DDs, 2% after £2 fees. I also have tons of meaningless DDs for different banks to fulfil their DD requirement. Co-operative everyday rewards requires 4 DDs for £4 reward.

Even set up Nationwide credit card (which also pays me some tiny interest on purchases) for DD purposes. I also use BirmMidshires and RS for DDs, but still have to have 2 charities to cover all my DD requirements. My road tax is coming up soon so I'm going to use that for M&S - I've recently opened account with them and they consider DD active as long as the interval between payments is less than 13 months.

I obviously did not read the detail in full, but interest is added monthly, a very welcome bonus for this months income.

Anyone got any idea why Goldman are bothering with retail savings in general and expanding into the UK in particular? It seems like a strange move. So they can benefit from a UK taxpayer bailout as well as a US one. Find out what GS did in the US in order to qualify for a US bailout. Disgraceful.

Switch to Pure Planet or Bulb for your utilities and invite a few friends at £25-£100 a time and they are cheapest around.
Never buy anything without a voucher and always check Quidco and Topcashback first. Use Barclaycard cash back credit card or virgin Money credit card.
You can save hundreds easily with a few clicks.

A small tip courtesy of MSE forums. If you log in to your Marcus account, go to the detail of your account and look in the bottom right hand corner you'll see a little field called 'review my savings'. Go there, and it will let you refresh your bonus rate for another full year.
So, if the variable aspect remains the same, you'll stay at 1.5% for another year from today rather then reverting to 1.35% a year after you opened it.

Sunday withdrawal wasn’t instantaneous, but it was a slow same day.

(and MSE) sadly I missed this and have only come here to inform but was beaten by a long way. The good thing is that being so late to he party means that my 1.49% lasts longer than if I had been early. I have one question though is anyone actually going here every week or so and reapplying until it removes the capability?.

I noticed last week that it appears to be possible to keep ‘renewing’ and did so again. Not yet logged back in to repeat.

It's still there, from Menu, View Account, bottom right-hand corner of page shows Account type, current interest rate etc. and a link with a right-pointing arrow to 'Review your savings'.

It's definitely still there. I've just renewed mine.
Crossed with cb25.

Crossed with cb25. Yeah did ours again yesterday. don't get too complacent though as only the bonus is fixed for the period the rate itself is variable.
