I love the Fintech revolution. Tandem cashback credit card offers 0.5% cashback. It gives me a generous cashback every month without real spending or saving. Although it doesn't work with Apple Pay nor Revolut directly, it does work with alternatives.

With reference to my asking AXIS a couple of basic questions (see above): despite explaining that I seldom found phone calls convenient to take and would appreciate answers by email, AXIS tried to ring me later that day. I missed the call as I was in a restaurant with a friend - and wouldn't have taken it had I heard the call tone. That evening I sent another email, stressing that I would prefer to be emailed and within two working days, as I needed to decide with which bank to invest. The next morning I was repairing a fence when my mobile rang - it was AXIS. Luckily I wasn't halfway up steps with nails in my mouth and a hammer in my hand. To my surprise (and relief as I didn't have the details to hand), I wasn't "taken through security", as most banks would have done. Yes, I could top up my matured funds for a new account, either electronically or by cheque provided the funds arrived by the day the account matured. Later on, I checked my emails - to find one from AXIS saying they'd rung me...
I've just opened an account with BLME, after having had another simple query quickly and efficiently answered. (So I didn't need to be assured several times that my call was important to them.) Filling in the on-line application was the smoothest such procedure I've ever done, though perhaps a final summary of the information I'd input would have been welcome before I clicked "Confirm". My application was accepted within ten minutes.

Slightly fraught day with my High Street bank blocking my attempt to transfer funds to BLME. I had to ring the fraud department and satisfy it that all was above board. All for my own good, of course.
Then I had an email from BLME saying that the money had come from the account of "P A Moonraker" rather than "T G Moonraker". "If you hold the account jointly with P A Moonraker, please kindly provide evidence of the joint account, such as a recent bank statement or letter (dated within the last 3 months). Please note that we will have to return the funds back to the originating account, if we do not receive evidence within 2 working days."
It's a long time since I've had a paper statement but I recall that it gave my name as "T G Moonraker PA", indicating the Power of Attorney I had for my father who died in 2006! Since then I've made many electronic payments to various banks with none picking up on the PA. I sent BLME a scan of my recent on-line statement, which satisfied the bank.
Then I tried to ring NatWest. After five minutes of my being repeatedly told it was busier than usual, a voice said "goodbye" ...

Inefficient and India in the same sentence..? A couple of weeks ago I rang the Union Bank of India to ask for a certificate of interest. A couple of the eight menu options were a bit difficult to decipher, but eventually I was able to make the request. A couple of days letter I had message left on my mobile to please ring so-and-so on a direct line. After three failed attempts I went to the main number, to be told that the statement would be in the post on Friday. (Perhaps they could have said that in the original message - oh well, they were being courteous.) It didn't arrive, so I rang again yesterday and, impressively, the statement arrived today - a single unfolded sheet. I can't think of any other bank nowadays that puts its name on the outside of the envelope, but this had one had a bright red sticker with a return address for the Union Bank of India. (I did wonder whether this was a common practice that might explain the non-arrival of the first statement.)
For some reason a staple had been put through the envelope and the statement, meaning I had to unpick it before removing the contents.

Look @hargreaves Lansdowne. They offer access to a few secure banks that pay p~~s poor rates to stash sums .

I've glanced at the rates on offer and seldom seen anything to match what I can get by re-investing with my current provider, or there might be just a tiny advantage that isn't worth the effort. Or sometimes I'm already invested with the banks featured by HL.
