I think the opening paragraph needs to be captured for posterity: "With the triumphant swagger of a county athlete who sees that he’s the 1-10 favourite for tomorrow’s race, drinks five pints of scrumpy in the pub the night before, and eventually staggers over the line an inch ahead of a 12-year-old farmer’s son before vomiting into the trophy, FCA CEO Andrew Bailey has shrugged off the ongoing scandal of the FCA’s failure to deal with unregulated investments and secured the appointment of Governor of the Bank of England."

I despaired of the decision to appoint this clown as governor of the BOE! He's nothing short of a Poundland Mark Carney!

"The friend adds: “He has a high sense of duty and a high sense of propriety. He’s not in it for himself, he’s not an exhibitionist and he’s just a serious, dutiful, clever man of the type you just don’t find in public service anymore.”
I'm sure, undoubtedly, when it's all very convenient and suits him.
Those who have suffered massive losses, through no fault of their own and only because of the FCA's gross incompetence under his stewardship have simply been "unfortunate."

I think this is one of those rare times that it's worth just repeating an old post once again, for comparison's sake ( courtesy of bondreview.co.uk via Nomad initially) "With the triumphant swagger of a county athlete who sees that he’s the 1-10 favourite for tomorrow’s race, drinks five pints of scrumpy in the pub the night before, and eventually staggers over the line an inch ahead of a 12-year-old farmer’s son before vomiting into the trophy, FCA CEO Andrew Bailey has shrugged off the ongoing scandal of the FCA’s failure to deal with unregulated investments and secured the appointment of Governor of the Bank of England."

Well I have to say that made for a nauseating yet humorous skim-read. From the forward regarding his appointment: "This would be funny if it were not so serious". Quite. I appreciate that Gina Miller initially rose to prominence over her involvement in debating the legality of Brexit, and took a position that a fair few members of this forum may not have supported at that time. But it must be said, she has balls of absolute steel and a brain the size of a house. I also have enormous admiration for her sticking her neck out - again - and will most certainly be signing her petition to get Bailey's appointment debated in parliament. Thanks for linking the crime report dan1

I'm at the point where I believe the financial sector would be in a better position without the FCA at all. It's the wild west out there which is absolutely fine so long as that's clearly understood. So let's not pretend it isn't by having a fake-authority pretending to oversee it.

It has nothing whatsoever to do with protecting investors [though that would be laudable] but everything to do with politics. Odious woman and a sore loser.
