As promised on the forum a little while ago I've been working on a new notification system for the platform. The underlying framework is now in place and the user interface will be finished this week.
However I thought I'd ask the community what notifications they'd actually like to see the system support. For each notification users can specify whether they want an in site notification or an email or both with the option to override the email address notifications are sent to on a per alert basis (that's probably overkill but it's there for now).
I'm keen to strike the right balance between giving users the alerts they want and being so granular that you overwhelm the new user, so rather than charging off and coming up with a list of 50 alerts that most people don't want or need I thought it better to start by asking the community. I'd also be interested in knowing which alerts people think should be automatically enabled for new users and which should have to be turned on.
I'll kick off with ten of my own (in no particular order):
1) Funds received via bank payment - enabled by default for new users for both notification and email.
2) Auction successfully completed - enabled by default for new users for both notification and email.
3) Auction unsuccessful - enabled by default for new users for notification.
4) Bid knocked out of a reverse auction - enabled by default for new users for notification.
5) Loan repayment received - enabled by default for new users for notification and email.
6) New auction listed for preview - enabled by default for new users for notification.
7) Auction started - disabled by default for new users.
8) Loan paid out - enabled by default for new users for notification.
9) Loan part sold on the aftermarket - enabled by default for new users for notification.
10) Withdrawal of funds has been processed - enabled by default for new users for notification.

I should add that if needed we can also group notifications and inherit settings - so a single setting presented to the user could affect multiple notifications. Really depends on how many notifications we end up supporting.

Given the way auctions are currently being listed for preview with a draft credit report could we also have one for when the full credit report goes up.

Can do. That would need to be manually triggered by the RM as the system wouldn't know the difference between a draft credit report and a full credit report. So there could be scope for human error, but it's certainly something that could be included.

All of the suggestions so far seem quite appropriate. I'd want nearly all of them to generate emails to prompt me to go look at the website, so I'd be tempted to turn them all on by default, but it's probably best not to inundate people with emails if they haven't explicitly asked for them -- as long as people are reminded that the notifications are user-configurable.

A daily (?) alert if new loan parts have been added to the aftermarket. (The problem here is deciding on the frequency) A weekly (?) alert if holding account balance > £20 and a loan is open for bidding. (This obviously isn't necessary for us obsessive money watcher types but zopa have had huge uninvested balances that people seem to have "forgotten" about - so an email asking had you thought about investing your balance might be appropriate)

A daily (?) alert if new loan parts have been added to the aftermarket. (The problem here is deciding on the frequency) A potential problem here is that loan parts offered tend to be snapped up relatively quickly, so I'd expect that in many -- most? nearly all? -- cases the offered parts will have gone by the time someone reacted to the alert. That tends to generate frustration -- I'm presuming that anyone who had set this alert on was hoping to pick up some loan parts -- so it might be better to leave this one out on the grounds that, in most cases, it's better not to know what you've missed out on.

We have a longer term solution in the pipeline for the aftermarket to improve things which would supercede the need for an alert but the alert could be something we offer in the short term as something people opt in to. As you say the loan units for sale do tend to go quickly so I would have thought it would be of limited utility.

Re the aftermarket: not managed to spot anything there for some time, but it occurred to me it would make things easier if identical units (same loan, same vendor, same price) could be listed under one entry, with a comment such as "30 units for sale" - like you can on ebay, etc.

Hopefully as more and more loans are drawn down, there will be more on offer on the aftermarket.

(I can find no controls in my account relating to such features.) Or was it delayed to be part of the system revamp that we've been expecting for some time now?

How about a change in credit position for a loan you hold units in ? I don't think that's covered above. Course, it wont happen very often . Has drawdown (for a loan that you have bid on) been covered ? At the moment that's a bit of a voyage of discovery, finding out by comparing figures that something happened then searching out what.....
The one other thing I dont think may need a notification in this way, as it may be overkill, is when an update has been made to an existing drawndown loan . Like a new comment. Very difficult to discover unless someone has flagged it up here, maybe a notification is the best way rather than inventing another mechanism (so long as the content of the update is included in the notification) alternatively could be via a flag on the loan listing but then there needs to be a way of clearing these off somehow.
