I expect they are hoping that much of the NG content will disappear foreverlike the money invested in the loans you mean ? Or perhaps the value of the guarantee provided by the apparently self declared Lord of Somerset, NG Esquire, (now former) owner of both the O*** ***r Fakery, and its sibling the E******t Fakery ?
Still, good upstanding member of the community he is, with a very good wine cellar, a nice pair of shiny shoes, and lots of high social connections, I guess we should be grateful to have had the pleasure of his acquaintance.

I can't believe I went for it. Never trust a nob has been a watchword and yet and yet. CF Assetz #227 D* M* where that was my exact note, but I was too tempted by a favourable credit report. NEVER TRUST A NOB !!!

Announcement email just arrived. And I'm.... pretty.... unimpressed. Yes, I'm definitely not happy about it.
I know that lynnanthony had a backup plan, but I didn't "register my interset" via the TC forum.
In theory, as they suggest, the "real" TC forum could be used. Whether they will keep as light a touch on there as they did on the VIP forum we don't know. Unless its improved since the days when i last used it, its also a bit pants.

I think they intended to fix it until they found out how much it would cost.
The announcement implies that the in-app forum will henceforth (or at least from the end of the month) be moderated with the same light touch as the VIP forum was (because its membership will be the same). I'm hoping that that this proves to be the case, and will revert to using the in-app forum for the time being.
Unfortunately it suffers from a fairly fundamental problem in that it is impossible to link to specific posts, or even to specific threads. Ho hum.

It is a right mess. Very disappointed with everything about TC since the big boys at ESF et al took over. Now we have no ability to check the history of posts. I did save all the forum posts re NG loans , MRDO, and a couple of others, but essentially we have lost bucket loads of historical data. Not amused, and with a huge deficit owing I am not optimistic that TC retail/recoveries will be fighting too hard.

Have we lost the 'Dropbox' too? I seem to remember that there was a large section with loads of files, including IPs (Information Packs) for all the historic loans as well as other information. It had a separate VIPxxxx login and password, just to complicate things.

We can advise that we will be obtaining the data from the VIP forum which will be archived in accordance with statutory requirements.
I assume this means that the data will not be reproduced on the 'new' forum?

1. I think we need a place to discuss what is going on with TC, and I think it would be better if we agree on just one place. 2. Having lost the VIP forum, TC want us to use their other forum which we mostly agree is a pretty dire place. (Any guarantees as to how long that site will last, anyway?)
3. The TC forum is private, this place (The P2P Independent forum) is public. How important to us as lenders is privacy? Why do we care about it? This place is a far far better place than TC. A further advantage is that a proportion of us already visit the P2P Independent forum. 4. A third option is bring into use “my” discussion group hosted on Groups.io. It would be more private than here as the current membership came wholly through the VIP forum but as soon as I admit any new members (who come across it here for instance) then I have no way of knowing who they are. Could be spies; Do we care? The other disadvantage is, it is a new site for some lenders to learn. I suggest we need something approaching a consensus as to which site we hold our discussions on now. My vote is to stay here on the P2P Independent forum. Second choice is “my” group on Groups.io. Last choice is TC’s site. But, inevitably, I will go with the flow.

I was also thinking here was a best "least worse" option. The privacy thing is a problem. The advantage of the TC site forum is that no new members will be admitted, and therefore it is quite likely that issues of "confidentiality" w.r.t risk of borrowers reading is reduced.
It might be possible - with the co-operation of board admin - to come up with a private board here. yes I can hear them all groan. the entry criteria to start with might be something like declaring what your profile/user name on the old VIP forum was. There is at least 1 staff member on this board who was sufficiently active on the VIP forum to remember most at least active users; plus other members on who I suspect would be viewed as "trusted members" who were also active on that forum to help in verifying those declared names. Edit: Or provide the loan names of 3 loans from separate borrowers. I'm sure between us we can police that.
The other alternative is that it moves to being a public discussion here, or alternative a board in "dd central". The latter of course does not provide any protection at all with regard to being "former TC" but probably could provide some protection with respect to a TC borrower or their affiliates getting unregistered access or easily getting granted member access.

I fail to understand why if TC can spend time and energy to remove all registered lenders without assets from the main site, they cannot sort out the hacking of thincats.net forum. Remember couple of years ago exactly the same problem happened, but it did not take their IT gurus long to get it back online. Let's see after 31st Jan how the main site forum works, but in the past it has been very lumpy and not user- friendly.

The one thing I know I'm not going to do is use the TC "in platform" forum. It's... not a good experience.

Last few times I tried to use the platform forum I’ve been supremely unsuccessful. I can’t imagine I’d reattempt to use it more frequently than once a month. It doesn’t have to be one or the other. We can use both, like we’ve been doing. Perhaps TC might be more responsive to complaints on here. (Hollow Laughter) Edit: I didn’t get the TC email although I did get the group.io one. Any chance it could be put up here? Here is the e-mail:Dear Members, Lenders may be aware that there has been an issue with the VIP forum, since Friday evening. We would first like to apologise for any inconvenience caused to members in not having the ability to access this forum. We have been liaising with the platform that hosts the VIP forum and have been advised that there is a malicious code on the website, which is preventing access. In order to restore access, this would take significant time, resources and costs. As such we have concluded that it would not be commercially beneficial to undertake this work and therefore we will be closing the VIP forum with immediate effect. The main forum remains accessible to all lenders registered on the platform and for those lenders who usually discuss specific loans via the VIP forum we can confirm that all registered lenders, who do not hold any assets on the platform will have their accounts closed no later than 31 January 2020 and their access to the main forum withdrawn. Accordingly there is no reason why the main forum cannot be operated in the same format as the VIP forum. We can advise that we will be obtaining the data from the VIP forum which will be archived in accordance with statutory requirements. As previously advised we remain dedicated to managing the existing loan book in which retail lenders are invested during the run-off period, in order to maximise realisations for lenders ThinCats members will continue to maintain access to the main forum via the main platform, once again we apologise for any inconvenience caused. Yet another detrimental step in the horrendous Thincats experience. I have no confidence in whatever they say or do. Their total focus has been on getting out of the retail market with as little damage to TC (and conversely with much damage to their retail lenders) as is legally but not morally possible. I have no words, at least not publishable to describe my contempt for them. Rant over and to get back on topic I would be content to use the P2P independent forum
