Still here this morning, just feeling a bit more dozy than usual. The opposite sex round here are past that sort of thing and I am not expecting to be having exciting nights out at my age.

spoke to a work colleague of mine today that has been off for many many months. Just back doing a day or two a week, and had to persuade doctor it was the right thing to do. Was a very very fit individual, and more towards the lower middle aged. What she has been and is still going through is awful, and a re-awakening of the impact this thing can have on some, if one was needed. And to think she wouldn't have made it to even bottom priority on the list had the vaccine been available before she got it. If I was 6 months older I'd be within band 9 but I don't even make that. Sad news and hope she gets fully better soon. The contrast in effects on different individuals is staggering and currently a real curiosity and indeed mystery (interesting article about the genomic analysis of individuals with bad outcomes the other day notwithstanding). The person I mentioned above also knows a number of GB level athletes who are barely able to get up a flight of stairs months after contracting. On the other, I have a friend who's mother recently contracted Covid in a care home. She had a bit of a bad cough for a while, and has now fully recovered. She is 94 and has dementia.

If someone has been looked after well for last 94 years, the chance of recovery has to be higher right?

The vaccine being rolled out to the most vulnerable and those who care for them really is great news. But, I await the nutjob anti-vaxxers who'll claim that tens of thousands of those vaccinated are dying every month of heart disease, strokes, cancer, dementia, and rare conditions as they do every month. They'll see it as an opportunity to further exploit fears and I just hope that BS doesn't leak into the MSM. The govt has a responsibility to prepare for and counter this misinformation which I'm sure will come.

Just wait till you've had the second jab. You'll be down the Darby and Joan club dancing on the tables.

Also, pigs could grow wings when injected with the vaccine.

On a related theme, I also expect excess mortality to dip below 5 year averages in Jan/Feb even with several hundred deaths per day due to Covid. Primarily due to the reduction in other respiratory related deaths as a result of social distancing. I expect the libertarian right won't let this "opportunity" pass.

Also simply catching up on the Covid-related "early mortality" from the last year. Granny in the care home can't die twice. Unless she's in Wales. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-55105307How...? I mean... a small swathe, sure - but HALF?

The dashboard (https://coronavirus.data.gov.uk) now includes data for NHS Trusts on the postcode search and Healthcare pages.

New Variant:I don't believe in most of the conspiracy theories and I'm sure this new strain exists but are the risks of it being exaggerated? "Mutant Strain" - come on..... It does also seem a but convenient for the government who were no doubt looking for ways to row back on the Xmas relaxation. Fear:Then as an aside I read this article at the BBC: www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-55362681Headline - Pressure on hospitals at a really dangerous point Then I read this within the same article (my italics): This is the highest occupancy rate so far this year - it's still lower than the same time last yearReally does feel to me that most of the media want us to be more afraid than we should be.

I see our good friends in the self appointed covid recovery group are moaning already.
Doesn't seem long ago that MP's in Kent were moaning about coming out of the second lockdown and being put in tier 2. In the words of the famous football chant, it's all gone quiet over there.

Given the uncertainty on the effectiveness of the AZ vaccine (60% good or 90% amazing), would it be sensible to roll it out to lower risk people in the tier 4 areas. This would help get the infection rate down while higher risk people wait for the 95% proven jabs.
