I believe they just don't have much previous experience in bringing new vaccines to market? They certainly weren't among the top vaccine makers anyway. Gven that 3 of the top 4 don't have a sucessful Covid vaccine, I wonder if previous experience counts for a lot?

From looking around it seems that the report covered data with a cut off date of Feb 17th (presumably allowing time to prepare the report) there is newer (not necessarily fully analysed data) that they are giving to the regulator ASAP, but AZ say the later data is consistent with the data presented already.

I wonder if any other European countries are doing likewise for the Summer? Presumably not if Schengen is to persist. The EU is working on a so-called Digital Green Certificate that "will be a proof that a person has been vaccinated against COVID-19, received a negative test result or recovered from COVID-19".

Further evidence from Norway that it's one rule for them and another for us:
Norwegian prime minister Erna Solberg was joined by 13 other people for her 60th birthday meal at a restaurant in the ski resort of Geilo at the end of February. Events attended by more than 10 people are banned in Norway to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

I believe they just don't have much previous experience in bringing new vaccines to market? They certainly weren't among the top vaccine makers anyway. I believe that the Oxford research was based on earlier work by Merck and that Oxford could have chosen Merck as a partner but for various reasons including concerns about Orange Man instead chose AZ.

Booked in for my first jab tomorrow . My wife has just been called for her second AZ on Saturday which will be 10 weeks after the first (my second Pfizer was on 5th January). Both our sons had first doses last week and already have their second ones booked, they are in their upper 50s which makes me feel a little old.

The link doesn't work for me. Our second dose was booked at the same time as the first one 12 weeks later. I don't know what they are doing now. It may depend if it's Pfizer or AZ?

Surely it is the case that 1st dose is based entirely on priority and grouping but the 2nd dose is based on around 12 weeks after the 1st. I had to book my second dose at the same time as the first.

I'd suspect those U55s with 2nd dose are the same U55s who got the first dose early - so carers and those with underlying conditions. Yep, it's +12wks from first. Herself got hers booked at the same time as first, I didn't - I booked through GP, she booked through general national tier.

I'll be 50 in July so just missed the cut off for the published timetable. I wonder am I getting it now because London is somewhat behind the rest of the country in the more prioritised cohorts and as a result might have excess doses? Maybe they just want to get it into people's arms?

Probably no surprise to anyone who's read my previous comments related to it, but I do find the travel ban news quite disturbing. I understand why some people are disinterested or actively think it's a good idea even. But consider this scenario, my scenario in fact. I'm likely to be permitted to leave the country this Summer as I have a family wedding to attend. However, I will also have signed a form to say I'm going for that reason, and there is a large fine applied to those going on holiday. So in theory will I be breaking the law if I then go from the wedding to the seaside in that country for a few days afterwards or indeed just go off from there elsewhere and live my life for a few months outside of the UK? Technically, I think so, or at least against the spirit of the law, I'm not sure. I find that a bit dark. I mean, put whatever requirements you like on my return. I'm already right now now forking out to quarantine separately from my family and paying £210 each for my wife and to be tested 2x after having been tested in where I left from. Presumably there will be similar requirements for inbound travellers over the Summer. But what right do they have to effectively try and limit my purpose abroad once I'm there if I choose to stay there? That has nothing to do with them as far as I'm concerned, or it shouldn't do. I wonder if any other European countries are doing likewise for the Summer? Presumably not if Schengen is to persist. Add to that the unknown of how long the UK's red list will continue and which countries will be on it. Then there are the queues which can be up to 7 hours on return. You know part of this reminds me of the "Hostile Environment" the government (T May ?) created to deal with illegal immigration. Its designed to influence behavior and is fuzzy. THe rules under which we all live should be very clear and easy for a court ultimately to decide upon. We've got to the stage where individual bobbys and check-in clerks are making these decisions. I think I'm in an even worse situation (and I don't want to compete in our misery!). My family and disabled 3 year old twins are living with my wife and their mother the other side of Europe. I want to join them and possibly bring them back here. That doesn't sound like a holiday to me but its not a funeral and its not a wedding and more importantly its not clear under what rules I can leave. I've read the rules many times and it doesn't seem black and white. Perhaps its a childcare bubble. But it all reads like a bubble is formed within the UK although nowhere does it state that. I'll only really know when I turn up at Heathrow or wherever. I'm sorry you're going through this, I cannot imagine how stressful it must be for all of you. Your exemption in order to join you family appears to be covered in Schedule 5, 11(a) , possibly with supporting circumstances from clauses 6,7,8,9 of the same schedule see p71 here: www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2021/364/pdfs/uksi_20210364_en.pdf assuming it comes into force 29 March.

Not looked into the stats or anything else, but off the top of my head - NHS staff plus vaccine staff/ volunteers, and care workers?
