.... If I said this above I apologise for saying it twice but I'm naturally right of centre and I voted for Johnson. I would never vote Tory again whilst he is in charge. This is from an email I sent to my then Conservative MP back in May 2019 while the Tory leadership election was in progress (the only time I have felt the urge to write to my MP): "If the party sees fit to elect BoJo as the next party leader, I will find it almost impossible to ever vote Conservative again, not just while he is the leader."The combination of incompetence and self serving nature of an executive under his leadership was sadly rather predictable.

I could say in Wales they won't bring back local lockdowns as we had last year. Mostly because last year the Lockdowns only affected the plebs "up the valleys" ie the deprived areas
this year the rate in Cardiff Newport and the Vale is 4 times what we had when we were locked down yet no sign, perhaps becaiuse all our "beloved" leaders live in the affluent areas

Having had my second jab on 5th January I was worrying that it would be ineffective, so was happy to get the text offering a booster 3 weeks ago which I was able to book 3 miles away at a new Pharmacy 2U center the next day. All highly efficient, my GP offered it about 2 weeks after that, so the notification systems really do work.

Based on what's happening there in terms of people coming for boosters, I can say with confidence that yes the notification systems really do work. Centres are now running joint 'flu and covid' jab appointments (funny how many months ago the advice was to not have covid jab within 7 days of flu but he hoh), which is obviously good. It is a bit depressing when you get clearly old/vulnerable people who say they are there only for flu because as 'they are not going to have the covid jab'. On the flip side, when it was first opened up for the 16-18 year age group, it was pretty inspiring to see the rush of youngsters keen to get vaccinated: more so than when the lowering to 18+ happened. Not sure why that was.

I thought it was OK to have the two together but our GP reception said leave it seven days between, had the flu jab today and booked the covid in a vaccine centre for next week. Anyway will be fully vaxxed soon.

It is normal for people to be offered both at the same time. Its another few days before I am eligible for my 180+ days booster dose. and I had my flu jab about 3 weeks ago, so I will avoid the experience of both at the same sitting. NHS website: COVID-19 booster vaccine and flu vaccine
Most people who can get a COVID-19 booster vaccine are also eligible for the annual flu vaccine.
If you are offered both vaccines, it's safe to have them at the same time.
Find out more about the flu vaccine

Interesting, my GP surgery called me for the flu jab 3 days after I had the booster and delayed it for a week when I told them, maybe the advice changed since then. I never had a sore arm after the first 2 Covids but did after the booster. As usual no sore arm from the flu one but my wife had that as she always does.

Bearing in mind that there are two different flu jabs (one for over 65's and one for the youngsters).

agent69 There are more than that - see my link. The one made specifically for over 65s contains egg (more egg, this year, than any of the others) so she can't have it. But there's no reason why she should not have one of the egg free ones.

I wondered if its because there wasn't much flu around last year, so I have little immunity left and hence got a big reaction to the vaccine, unlike other years.

A rather cynical view? I'm in the Vale (of Glamorgan) and we had lockdowns too, which affected us just as badly. I may be wrong but, when the Valleys were locked down, wasn't their rate one of the worst in the UK for a protracted period... and, crucially, at a time before most people were vaccinated? You've posted here before how your neighbours were constantly living in each other's houses, ignoring the rules. Perhaps the authorities are also aware of this deep need for social interaction... they know their audience, so react accordingly when setting the thresholds?

try persuading her again. Everything is screaming that it is high probability that this is going to be a BAD flu season. I think it was 3 years ago my then 86 yr old father didn't have the flu jab because he felt a bit c**p after his last one. He then got knocked out badly for weeks by a dose of flu. Whereas my mother - with much dodgier respiratory system - just had the sniffles 'cos she had been jabbed.
