"But Patel insisted that 20% of available working age people were inactive and could be encouraged into work."
Hilarious. You voted the EU workers out. Now you are left with the work.

EU workers were not voted out. Those here already are able to stay and the process to settlement was actually made easier for them as a result of Brexit. Going forward, they can still come to the UK but they will no longer receive preferential treatment and will have to qualify for the appropriate visa along with everyone else.

Who qualifies? I don't. Didn't they sat 50 points for being fluent in English?

Did the same exercise years ago but for fun on the Points System required to enter Oz. Glad I already have citizenship cos I failed, by a decent margin!

It might help you later when you try to interpret what happened to you and your country.

No, they can't come if they don't speak the language or if the suspected salary is not high enough You also miss the main point. Pratel fully complies with them not coming .. her target are now the "20% economically inactive people" Think it over what that means

I'm in the bracket for economically inactive
60 years old and living on my pension, and running a small business as a sideline
I don't want a full time job,
I think this will go down a treat in Boston where they voted out, because they didn't want foreigners taking their jobs, but don't want to work in muddy fields,
one reality for many farmers is they may have to start paying proper wages, having lived in a farming area many staff are employed via gangmasters at lets say £65 a day now the brits do 8 hours for that but somehow the eastern Europeans are doing 12 hour day's and are being charged for transport, accommodation etc out of that amount, and yes I know of properties with 10 people living in a 3 bed terraced house.

IMHO speaking English should be a requirement for all immigrants who want to work here
I also saw that "waiting on tables" was no longer a qualifying shortage skill

Personally I think the phrase "economically inactive", as commonly understood, is economically illiterate.

English language proficiency and a qualifying salary are just two of the criteria, there are several more. The point is though, that they are now treated the same as everyone else who wants to come to the UK.

Ms Patels definition "Economically inactive people are: not employed - they do not have a job. not unemployed - they have not looked for a job in the past four weeks and/or are not available for work in the next two weeks." So stay at home mum's...
