OK so I have a slightly biased view on this,
I live in one of the poorest areas of the UK, but with the highest Council tax charges, and some of the worst services.
My property band A charge is £1357 a year, Cardiff where incomes 50% higher £1025, Westminster £520 ( and yes I accept that there are not many Band A properties in Cardiff and Westminster )
why can't we have a system where everyone pays the same !
Perhaps we even need to reconsider the idea of a poll tax where every adult pays, or the council tax depends on number of adults in the house, at the moment a single person household gets a 25% discount so why not a 20% premium for 3 adults ? Indeed why is is 25% I accept that the contribution to Highways etc should be the same, but i produce less rubbish etc. I think a 40% discount would be more reasonable.

I always felt the poll tax (community charge) was intuitively a fairer system, making each adult responsible for their share, but we saw the results - the great unwashed rebelled! You might find this table helpful: counciltaxrates.info/council-tax-statsCan't tell if it's up to date, but a quick crunch of the numbers shows the "mean of the means" is £1389 (the true national mean will be close to that). So broadly what you are paying. That does seem rather high for a Band A, but I imagine councils in deprived areas have higher outgoings to cover. If it's any consolation, I retired to south Wales but have to cough up double your figure every year!
