I'm having to cast around for institutions offering higher interest rates and resorted first to UBL UK. Seven working days ago I emailed them with three basic queries - no reply.
Then on Thursday I filled in an online application form for JN Bank, whose confirmation suggested that I should hear back from them within 24 hours. Nothing from them by this morning, so I phoned. The 0800 number given on the website wasn't recognised, so I tried an 020 (London) number. I got the usual menu, together with an invitation to enter an extension number if I knew it or put in "0" for the operator, which I did, only to get a message that there was no-one available to take my call (at 1115) and that the bank's email in-box was full.
Not at all reassuring!
Oh well, back to the comparison websites.
EDIT
One such website suggested Hanley Building Society 3-year deposit at 1.25%. Rang them up to query ID requirements, was told the account had been pulled last week.
FURTHER EDIT:
Just rang Zenith and was given a menu of nine options. I pressed the one for "personal savings" and was three times told I hadn't done so in time. When I got through to someone, the conversation ended after three seconds with a squawk. Tried again, to be told again I hadn't pressed the option in time, finally got through to a guy who said he was in HR; he promised to get someone to ring me back.
Time was when I would have fretted about my money not earning interest, but with rates so low it doesn't really matter.
Looks as if some smaller banks have yet to get their act together under the New Normal.

Zenith did get back to me quickly and I was told to enter any old number for the passport and the bank would get back to me.
After the passport hurdle I can't recall saving and submitting my application, but this afternoon got three emails from Raisin accepting my application and inviting me to transfer funds to Starling Bank. I duly added the bank's details to the payees on my online account with my High Street bank - which could not verify them and advised me to proceed with caution.
I understand the relationship between Raisin, Starling and Zenith and the Raisin website looks genuine, but the whole process has been so shakey I'm not going to proceed.
As I was typing the above, I had an email from Zenith advising "Your bank may not be able to confirm your Raisin UK Account details when you transfer money, even if you enter your details correctly. This is because the receiving bank have not yet implemented Confirmation of Payee for the Raisin UK Account. However it is safe and secure to transfer your deposit to your Raisin UK Account."
Incidentally Hargreaves Lansdown's comparable savings platform could only offer up to .9% interest for a three-year deposit.

Don't bother
If you are looking to maximise the difference between income and expenditure, you are far better off looking at the expenditure side of things. If you could get an extra 0.1% on £50k of savings you could achieve the same effect by reducing your alcohol intake by 1 pint a month - pointless

My life is already minimalist and I don't drink alcohol! As revealed in another thread, I'm bored with money and shall be giving more of it to charity. My attitude may change again when I learn how the Government plans to recoup its spending on Covid.

Hey, moonraker , I feel your dilemma but if you are that bored with money i'm happy for you to offload some of it to me if it helps. Mind you we are not exactly short of it to be fair having received my NSP last week Mrs Aju is making quite a dent in it though!. trying to find somewhere to dump it better at better rates its becoming very tedious but necessary to keep Mrs Aju's morale up!

What a mess it has become! Using Faster Payments I transferred the deposit to Raisin, with my High Street Bank confirming that the payment had been made Yesterday the money was back in my account because the bank couldn't recognise the recipient's name, despite it suggesting it when I entered the sort code and account number.
Overnight an email from Raisin arrived, stating "Thank you for transferring the full funding amount to your Raisin UK Account using Faster Payments for your Zenith Bank UK Ltd savings account, your money is now being transferred. Please be aware that you can no longer withdraw your application."
Panic, allayed by a very prompt check to confirm that the money had been returned to my High Street account, as I'd already found an alternative home for it with DF Capital, which had suddenly appeared in the "Best Rates" tables. The application process was painless and within ten minutes I'd completed the form and deposited funds.
I did email Raisin last night to say that I was no longer proceeding with my application because of the bother. I received an automated response saying I could expect a reply within three days.
Now I'm leaving Raisin and Zenith to sort it out.

Had some really slow stuff and confusing days with HSBC recently, it was a new account and it took nearly a month to get online access to the account and funds I wanted to put into the RegSaver - needless to say I only moved the required amounts to get the £125 first. Got there in the end but it felt more than to much hard work for £125 sweetener. Once there though its very simple and works ok their phone line whilst not in this country was very good and helpful and quick. The RegSaver rate is only 2.75% but when factoring in the £125 - non taxable too - it definitely cuts in for us and is another place to move £250 a month and be working for us. I didn't bother with Mrs Aju on this one though as whilst she may be seriously richer than me on paper her visible/allowable monthly income is outside the bounds that I think HSBC would accept - they have not in the past anyway. I do wonder sometimes though having been a s/w designer in the distant past and in particular having a bent against using toys for any kind of banking at least where large sums are concerned that the large scale move to the toy (Mobiles) market is not helpful for luddites like me.

I had a prompt email back from Raisin: "Unfortunately your funds were returned to the originating account as the receiving bank could not positively identify you from the information in the electronic transfer. In many cases the sending bank will use initials instead of your full name. In other cases (in case you are sending funds from a joint account), only the name of your partner will be showing up in the transfer. Both of these scenarios can lead to the funds being returned automatically. We therefore kindly ask you to send us a copy of your passport /ID-Card or Driving license as well as a copy of a bank statement showing your full name and address. The bank statement should not be older than three months and must be authorized by the Financial Conduct Authority."
I open similar accounts two or three times a year and have NEVER had this problem before.

I have heard anecdotally of others getting this problem but assumed they perhaps didn't have as much of a personal credit file footprint as someone like myself and Mrs Aju have built up over the last 50 odd years or more .. You would wonder why sometimes these banks cannot cope with the wrong name!. (I guess its going to be more prevalent though as the banks increasingly are help accountable for frauds) That said we had some issues recently with Ford Money in that our donor bank (Lloyds) could not recognise the correct FM names that FM suggested we use for payments . In Lloyds case it rejected the official FM name so I then asked FM what their correct name was but they reiterated the initial name that they gave me. I asked them why Lloyds was suggesting I use a completely different name and FM said the expected name Lloyds was the FM umbrella/head office ID name but the account name I signed up should have been as directed!. In my case after checking I was happy it was correct and the Sortcode & A/c Nos lined up I went back to Lloyds and sent a £1 test to FM and it got through ok after overriding the Lloyds system. Just a bit odd that Lloyds has the wrong name for the account and FM don't see it as their error. After all that the £1 send and the subsequent 5 figure amount sent for savings triggered a fraud flag and I ended up having to prove I was sending the money correctly for Lloyds to release it to the account. Fortunately Since I have been with Lloyds ever since I can remember they were able to secure check me over the phone and let the funds through but it beggars belief that any of this stuff works correctly. Every cloud has a silver lining I guess as it does mean I can name the FM account on Lloyds as "Mrs Aju FM savings" rather than the official name name which helps down the line for identifying where to send subsequent donations.

Reference my opening post about hearing nothing from JNBank about the application I sent them electronically on October 29. I got a phone call at midday today about it (12 days later). I courteously interrupted to say that the delay had been such that I had deposited my funds elsewhere and that I had been unable to communicate with the bank.
The guy acknowledged that the bank was having problems, with staff working from home. So not a reassuring home for my money.
