Well I used to drive 30000 miles a year plus for work, and thought nothing of driving 200 miles each way for a weekend away.
I've retired and driving was still great fun 250 each way to see the kids no problem.
Until this week the furthest I'd been this year was 8 miles each way, this week 25 miles each way to see my partner seemed a long trip.

Take me out and shoot me now, I have a car, a motorhome, a motorbike and a daughter! Where do I hand myself in? You disgusting human being . If you're handing yourself in, it must be somewhere local; on no account should you drive to do this. I would normally suggest removal of gonads for such heinous behaviour, but clearly this is too late in your case You'll have to be quick if you want to beat SWMBO to it! Although bicycle saddles have probably already completed the job over the years. I've clocked up more mileage on my bikes (both e- and analogue) than the 11yo motorbike, surprisingly.

I use to drive about 25,000 to and from work, but over the last year 50% of my mileage is to the golf course and back

I was amazed to discover that people drive to the gym, tennis or golf courses. Why not live next to them?

Why not have them all close? Is it really so hard to buy a house or flat that is close to all the things you want?
I mean I know Yorkshire is special :-) but I live in the country and I'm within 1.5 miles of a bus station, a train station, 5 large supermarkets, a large range of individual shops, 6 schools, over 20 religious buildings and at least 27 pubs, 15 restaurants, 10 cafes, one golf course, two gyms, two excellent libraries, a sailing gravel pit, 4 public tennis courts, two crown green lawns, an open air market, a river, a large hill, a livery stables, 5 large parks (one massive) and a small international airport.

I've planted over 130,000 trees and I intend to drive around the world at least 3 more times before I die. I couldn't afford to run a car until I was 40. Bike on the rest of you.

Someone already bought those desirable places at more than we could afford any where near the places we worked. Most people have to compromise.

HMM
Has anyone considered the effect of company car leases of the pandemic, as I remember I had to put 20K work miles a year on my lease car, otherwise there was a sliding scale of Tax as it was regarded as a perk rather than a business tool. There was also NI to be paid.

What is the point in paying a lot for a house and a car and do lots of traveling if all you get is a well paid job. It might be better to have a lower paid job, a cheaper house and do far less traveling. I've done both and cheaper is often better. You only get one life. (unless you think you get two in which case I have some bridges you might like to buy)

£380/mo for 800 miles/mo in a Nissan Qashqow, 24mo term. A very quick look finds a lease for the same spec and mileage for £180+vat, 9+23, amortising to £290/mo. So the flexibility is costing you £90/mo, nearly £2,200 over the two year term.

Volvo XC 70 averages 54 mpg if driven by me . New car smell can be achieved by cleaning it .

Is that some of the price difference?

(unless you think you get two in which case I have some bridges you might like to buy) Gave up the well paid job ASAP, still have the quite nice house. Edit: I should say it was also a pretty fun job, not all that well paid really, not well enough to buy any sort of house anywhere near.
