Just heard that Great Apes spurn bananas in favour of parsnips and apples at this time of year - Radio 4, so must be true.

I've got a kilo + of parsnips from our local market yesterday, and just received another free 4kg bramleys from a friend with an excellent tree. I do still keep up on the bananas though. Happy Christmas everybody!

Also heard on the same report that Great Apes (and I think you and others would see you as Great, Old Grumpy) like to fashion themselves hats and even jewellery to adorn themselves.

Grumps - try plantains instead of bananas ... that should work Strangely, plantain pollen is one of the four identified cause of my life long "hay-fever".

Never mind OG, the outlook for 2015 promises a vintage rhubarb crop. You might also be interested to learn that Sir Titus Salt a textile baron and philanthropist reputedly grew bananas and pineapples in West Yorkshire in the 1870’s. (Not for philanthropic reasons though as far as I know) Best wishes to all forum members for Christmas and the New Year from God’s Own County.
