Its possible it has become more severe since the war but for a very long time the law was as you describe for children. I think you probably knew that but you like to skew things to promote your own brand of liberalism. In Russia (and Ukraine) same sex sexual relations are highly disproved of. It wasn't that long ago that it was the case in the UK too. If our values don't align with those of other countries we should not attempt to grab what we consider to be the moral high ground. We had an empire once and now we try to live out our moralising with so called soft power.

I'm not the one cancelling things here. It always makes me chuckle when people use "liberal" as an insult. I mean, the dictionary definition is literally "respecting and allowing many different types of beliefs or behaviour", with "open-minded" as a synonym. dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/liberalOr, if you prefer the OED... "willing to respect or accept behaviour or opinions different from one's own; open to new ideas."I've been called FAR worse. TBH, it would appear to say far more about those who think it an insult. Indeed. We've got over that particular bigotry, just as we've (mostly) got over racial discrimination, gruesomely executing people for having mildly different religious persuasions, or hanging monkeys in case they're French. I happen to think that a good thing, you clearly don't. You happen to think respecting others is a bad thing. We've established that already. Shouldn't we? Yep, I think we can all agree that walking into other countries and saying "Mine now!" is a bad thing. But perhaps we shouldn't take the moral high ground there, either? Perhaps we should just le t other countries get on with that, too? So you're quite happy with, say, throwing people off the top of buildings (or stoning or beating them to death, or...) simply because of one intrinsic aspect of their fundamental existence...? You don't think that should be discouraged at all...? Is it just homosexuality you think the West shouldn't take the high ground on? How about, say, FGM? Or child brides? Or mass-murder of the next-door neighbours? Or...?

We had an empire once and now we try to live out our moralising with so called soft power. ...and, right on cue... www.theguardian.com/global-development/2023/apr/20/ugandas-president-refuses-to-sign-new-hardline-anti-gay-bill"Uganda’s president, Yoweri Museveni, has refused to sign into law a controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill that imposes the death penalty for homosexuality, requesting that it be returned to parliament to make it even harsher." "The bill in its current form imposes capital and life-imprisonment sentences for gay sex, up to 14 years for “attempted” homosexuality, and 20 years in jail for “recruitment, promotion and funding” of same-sex “activities”."
You see no issues there worth mentioning to them, I presume? "Museveni has claimed that his government is attempt to resist western efforts to “normalise” what he called “deviations”. “The western countries should stop wasting the time of humanity by trying to impose their practices on other people,” he said."To which you wholeheartedly agree, I presume?

Our new deputy prime minister
Oliver Dowden went to Parmiter’s School near Watford and then won a place to study law at Cambridge University.
Then it all seems to have gone south for him
It is not clear if he received a degree in Law, but he set aside his course to go teaching in Japan.
Once again the Conservative party gets people in senior positions who are under qualified to do anything

Amazon has launched a full investigation after the BBC revealed that some high-value orders had been switched for cheaper products before delivery. Items such as cameras, watches and mobile phones were replaced with cat food, condoms and balloons.

It seems like Amazon hasn’t caught their picker guy switching products. He must have targeted item and prepared toys for the specific swap and waiting to be lucky. youtu.be/UAKPoAn2cB0

I know Simon Macdonald's family pretty well. While everyone lies, the family frowns on it pretty seriously. If Lord Simon says Raab bullied, then he bullied

one really good protest but as one commentator said
"I don't know if they can get the dust out of the baize"
I thought
"I don't know if they can get the CO2 out of the atmosphere"
still (slaps head and looks into the future)

Diane Abbott suspended by Labour after letter suggesting Jews do not face racism - so much for Labour having overcome their antisemitism problems.

It was only a matter of time. She has much previous form as a racist, and obviously didn't learn anything after her rant decrying the employment of blonde, blue eyed Finnish nurses years ago, for example.

Gina miller ... on the bandwagon .... funny how it came out the day after the probe result.. Yeh, minor issue with that theory... February - www.independent.co.uk/voices/dominic-raab-bullying-allegations-gina-miller-b2274570.htmlThere is an absolute ton of circumstantial evidence suggesting Raab is a very unpleasant, domineering individual with a superiority complex and a very short fuse. Anybody who is in denial about that really needs to pause and ask themselves if they'd carry the same view if they didn't agree with his politics. Wherever we stand on various issues, we undeniably deserve better politicians.
