I'm currently planning my next holiday and wondered if I should consider somewhere different.
Should you consider somehwere different?
According to their embassy, 15-20k visitors annually. No cheap macs like in Vietnam, no cricket to watch like in Thailand. Very different indeed.
There are lots of great Countries out there to visit, just a shame that some are ruled by nutters.
As a cricket fan I've always regretted not being able to safely visit Pakistan. Even Bangladesh is a bit dodgy. Would love to go to Cox's Bazar, which has the longest beach in the world (no issues with German tourists taking all the sun loungers). Unfortunately, you only need to go a few miles up into the the hills to meet the local machete wielding head bangers.
So looks like a choice between sheep's head curry with rice in Afghanistan or Chicken curry with half and half in an Irish bar in Thailand.

Very much a case of "déjà vu". Fifty years ago the Manpower Services Commission, with two main branches, the Employment Service Agency and Training Services Agency, was created out of the Department of Employment. (Apparently much of one meeting of senior staff was devoted to debating/arguing whether "Service" should be pluralised.)
Area Manpower Boards comprised representatives of local councils, trade unions employers and voluntary organisations, though these mainly approved temporary job-creation and work-experience schemes. There were also Skillcentres (training unemployed adults), which the Government privatised, leading to most (all?) of them disappearing, in a few cases ten years or so after they'd been built.
The TSA schemes were taken over by Training and Enterprise Councils, which didn't last very long either. I don't know what happened after that, as I'd retired from being an MSC regional press officer - just before Jobcentres were re-united with unemployment benefit offices, not long after a drawn-out separation of the two had been completed ...

Well, more could be suspended before the next GE with such a majority. Certainly they would’ve had if it was before GE 2024
