Normally I'd fly but this year ...
So normally 2 weeks in Greece etc allowing for meals etc £1000 per person ( I prefer to wander for meals rather than All Inclusive ) I have seen All inclusive for when I want to go at < £1000 for 2 of us . Looking at places in the UK looking at £1500 just for accommodation.
Price of a drink Greece €4 UK £5.
It may be greener etc to stay in the UK but it will cost a whole lot more.

Presumably the costs are a lot higher than usual in the UK this summer.

Presumably the costs are a lot higher than usual in the UK this summer. Much. Because basic supply and demand. "Wandering for meals" is damn near impossible, too. Restricted supply, increased demand. Book way ahead. Those of us who live in areas with lots of tourists can't wait for a fortnight's time.

IMHO it isn't, extra cleaning should only be needed when people leave the property not every day, day to day should be no different to 2 years ago

I'm hiking in the Lakes mid October. A good B&B is no more expensive than it was 2 years ago! Anyone holidaying in school holidays is going to get stung!

I've got 3 weeks booked in Barbados at the end of November. Still undecided whether to go or not.

In real terms costs have been reduced. I spent a few nights in a hotel in Wales; rooms were not made up on a daily basis & the substantial breakfast buffet had been replaced by a meagre breakfast basket.

This UK based holiday thing is really going to catch on, its the future. Who wants those cheap sun, sea, sex and beer foreign holidays when you can huddle in your tent and play cards or i spy until going to the take away which has raised its prices by over 50%. Book a meal elsewhere, your be lucky , oh ps no mobile coverage on site does not help in the booking meal compition stakes.

Unless they are using it as a character building exercise for their kids. We've just come back from 5 days away in the motorhome. Our site - which was a field limited to 5 units - has gorgeous views over the Marlborough downs. Two decent pubs 5 minutes walk down the road (but 8 coming back due to the 13% gradient hill !). Table for 2 could be booked same day (albeit that was mid-week). Oh, and the 'Guest Ale' was priced at £2.90 / pint. And a well stocked Co-Op. Owner comes in regularly to cut the grass to keep it neat and tidy. Price is £10 per night for the pitch, with use of non-metered electric hook up included (and it has been that same price for at least 4 years). We are away again for a few days early next week. This time to a lovely site right next to the Kennet and Avon. One pub in about 4 minutes walk up a lane, another is 12 minutes along the canal path (or 5 by bike). Again limited to 5 units. Cost is £14 per night: no electric hook up but that's fine for a number of days.
