Im with Bulb energy who have been very good for the last 2 years however today I recieved another e mail advising another energy cost increase. Roughly a 10% rise! based on my consumption. Last month I had another increase. Ive not compared providers yet , I would be interested to know who everyone else uses , what the service has been like and how your provider compares to the competition. BTW , ive used up my contacts to try referals

I prefer Bulb - much simpler and clearer than edf. I've used Octopus Energy prior to Bulb - it is very similar to Bulb. I think out of all I've used in the past 10 years or so my favourites are Octopus and Bulb.

EDF just gave us a ridiculously high quote for our next contract having been pretty good before.

BTW , ive used up my contacts to try referals I'm currently with Pure Planet and my partner just switched to them. They came out reasonably well on the comparison sites and her meagre usage meant that the £50 referral bonus (£25 each, my referral code) tipped the balance in their favour. PM me if of interest. Very simple to use, by the way - one of the most minimal sites I've seen! They're also responsive to lowering their algo-derived utilisation forecasts which are applied to the monthly DD. I tried doing similar with Scottish Power some years back and even though I was in some significant credit, all I got from SP was: "Sorry. Computer says no."

We are using OCTOPUS ENERGY with one of the EV tariffs, I think I am right in saying these tariffs are not on comparison sites, but we are quite happy and the EV is happy charging at 5ppkWh

I'm with AVRO and their renew of dual fuel has gone up 23% since last year but is still a lot cheaper than others according to money saver etc.

Few years ago I was with Outfox The Market. Got a link from Cheap Energy Club and they were indeed the cheapest on the list at the time. Had a gas leak on Friday, reported, engineer came in about 20 minutes, I showed him where damage was. He said he's got the replacement part in the van, but he can't do it because Outfox hasn't got a contract with Ofgem, it's Outfox's responsibility to fix it. It appeared that Outfox doesn't respond to calls outside normal working hours, so we had to wait until Monday. Luckily it was summer and the Ofgem engineer gave us an electric hob for cooking...

Always check with your existing Supplier near the ending of your Tariff.
Even the excellent Money Saving Expert / Cheap Energy Club comparisons can't and don't allow for any "special" Tariffs offered to existing and renewing Customers.
I also renewed with AVRO who came in *cheapest but they didn't figure competitively in the MSE / CEC comparisons when I did my annual switching exercise earlier this month.
It is also said that it is worthwhile to investigate Gas and Electric separately instead of "Dual", but I have never found the cheapest for each to be a better deal than the cheapest "Dual" offering.

beware of just looking at cost per kWh which is what some comparisons do. Standing charges are also creeping up a couple of years ago it was 18P now I'm on 21P and I've seen as high as 28P
if you use 7kWh a day the standing charge was in effect an extra 2.5p per kWh now its 4P.
And if like me you have solar ( and battery ) it's far worse 12 July I used 12kWh of electricity and was charged £9 an effective cost of 75P per kWh

Just a word of warning for those who (previsouly like me) change their tarrifs frequently.
Always, always do some basic checks on their customer service. Ok, maybe like me you think you'll never need to contact them and its not that important really. I'm not saying you have to get the best for CS but my warning is don't get the worst as I did.
I went with a supplier about 3 years ago. They were so, so bad that they never sent you a bill. I'm talking in 18 months you never got a bill. If you switched again you risked either the switch being rejected or having to spend too much time digging into ancient bills (that would dissapear from the site on a regular basis). Or worse having your credit rating trashed.
And it wasn't just me as there were facebook groups lined up to share tales of woe and frustration. Hours on the phone for nothing and never to know how much they owed you or vice-versa.
Obvisouly I complained to the ombudsman who found in my favour but it doesnt help. They resolve the situation as it was 6 months ago when you put in your complaint. So a second complaint went in and this time chasing what the heck was going on was getting worse and worse.
Finally I got out when I put in a call to a slightly infamous guy called "Ray" who works/worked in the CEI office. He would look at complaints and solve them manually. Mine was sorted in 5 minutes on the phone - I knew how much I owed and I had a letter from him confirming they would never chase me for payment again (which they did to plenty of people causing credit reference issues)
Sorry for the ramble but do check on trustpilot at a minimum (and actually read a handful of reviews to get a feel for fakeness or not).
P.S. Don't ever go near Together Energy (unless you're sure the chairmen, CEO and the whole outfit has been root and branch changed - I've heard they are now slightly better but why risk it ?

Save yourself time and money. Just use clubs.moneysavingexpert.com/cheapenergyclub. I've been using martin lewis for what feels like 20 years, I don't mind him making a lot of money because there has never been any doubt whose side he is on. I've saved 1000's using the site for absolutely everything related to spending, making or saving money. Their Resolver product for making complaints against shoddy treatment and customer service is awesome.
As far as tariffs go, I'll be switching several accounts for other people to Bulb's variable tariff from EDF imminently, EDF's new offering is currently 25% higher than Bulb which is the cheapest for me. Octopus energy comes in at the same price but with Bulb both parties get a £50 credit if you use an existing customer's referral link. I have a link you can use if you need to get started and don't know anyone else on Bulb.

Well the last two energy companies I choose via MSE went into administration with a credit balance on my account !
So the hassle of recovering monies owed and getting transferred from the designated provider to my new preferred provider somewhat outweighed any cost savings.
Now have smart meters and have moved to Octopus Agile tariff which subject to avoiding running appliances at peak time should be a cost saver.

Didn't you get automatically moved to another provider that honoured the contract of the failed provider until the end of the term? That is what happened when our provider went bust and the credit/debit situation was all sorted out in the switch totally hands off.

Is this meant to be a criticism of MSE ? It provides all the factual information you could possible want and you're free to chose any provider. When a supplier goes bust, Ofgem chooses a new supplier and your credit balance carries forward to the new supplier.
