Octopus 4 me . Pay for reliability and good customer service . Plus quarterly the Grid from solar panels. My heating is wood burners and I own the wood (its on right now , started late August). I'm one of an increasingly small number still on agile , which is wholesale price based 11 hours tomorrow it hits 35P ! I think a lot of people are gonna get huge shocks

and don't forget the wholesale price of gas has doubled in the last year and 40% plus of our electricity is still generated from gas.
At the moment we have a period of cloudy skies and light or no wind which is pushing the wholesale cost of electricity up.
It's september and I'm struggling to get enough charge into my battery to last the night, so those people ( not on here ) saying the average house could manage in the middle of winter are deluded.

I'm not sure what the average house is even like but it does raise an interesting series of points
For instance are we now at the point where the average house is thermally insulated to say 300m in the loft, full cavity or external insulation, double glazing on windows and doors with no gaps in the walls and modern lighting? I just don't know.
Then do the average family work with their insulation, ie wear clothes suitable for winter, take showers of sensible length and maintain room temperatures at a sensible level. I only ask these things because when I do visit friends with younger families I see houses operating at 20C+ in mid winter.
Then there is the more interesting subject of fuel poverty and the affect of cooking methods which take no account of physices. One of my dumber family members still cooks rice at full boil with the pan lid off, another boils potatoes in one pan and vegetables in another despite them both being only half full.
Education seems to be forgotten as soon as they leave school

Believe it or not, I've got a mate who always boils the kettle full, on the basis that it will heat up quicker next time

I think it would be a reasonable assumption that the average house is not that tall..... forget the energy impact, they should be done for abuse of vegetables.

Ofgem say 2900kWh of electricity and 12000Wh of gas a year is average. The family opposite I often see him in mid winter in the house in just shorts, one of my neighbours has a window open all day every day. one of my friends thinks £200 a month for gas and electricity is reasonable. Most houses round here ( Welsh Valleys ) are thick stone walls with no cavity and no external insulation. I can look out on a frosty morning and could tell you which houses have no or little loft insulation

Believe it or not, I've got a mate who always boils the kettle full, on the basis that it will heat up quicker next time my late father would always throw any water in the kettle away and refill with fresh "boiling it twice boils all the oxygen out of the water, and it won't make a decent cup of tea"

did he carry out scientific experiments with that or was it just a theory
Many years ago I worked for a man who thought there was such a thing as "virgin" steel and would only buy it rather than steel made out of scrap. He also thought steel had to rest after machining so it had time to relax. (24 hours) Needless to say, once we had walked him off site we could start making money.

It won't just be electricity that shocks people, ( lol that wasn't intended as a joke )
My current gas tariff is around the 3p per kWh mark , most current offerings are 4.5-5p per kWh so a lot of people are looking at nearly a 50% increase in energy costs over the winter.

Does anybody knows what happens if you are in credit and your supplier goes under?
