Debit card payments suspended on the platform is a clear sign the scale was impressive.
Talking to them they do seem to be 'talking a good and quick' resolution. What gets delivered will obviously be the key factor.
I am still somewhat puzzled as to how they were able to do it. Certainly something I will be asking my bank. Also something that needs to be ensured cannot be repeated.

I would be amazed if it was solely MangoPay's fault, imagine the carnage. Nothing appearing in a Google search. These systems use api's and messages. I've worked in companies that have had great fun trying to track down these sort of problems, then they realise all dev,test,pre-prod software systems are refreshed using production data !

I am shocked.
No one got a call from the bank’s fraud team nor have money reversed?!!
And my Open Banking transaction ££££ was reversed 8 hours later.

You must be using a different Google. I found the article in The Sun linked in my previous comment.

No one got a call from the bank’s fraud team nor have money reversed?!! It's not fraud, just a "technical error" allegedly. You can start a transaction dispute with your bank, but only after contacting the merchant first and giving them 15 days to resolve the issue themselves.

I am pretty sure some banks or card issuers will suspend a card and ask if you recognise any transactions. I had a few of those in the past.
No idea what trigger the calls but they did call, just not with mango pay.

Oh yes, I got some perfectly valid transactions blocked by my bank as well because they thought they were suspicious, and had to waste some time on the phone getting them unblocked. But that usually happens the first time you pay a new recipient, which isn't the case here.

Possibly the MangoPay system development team were doing system testing with a live database copy from February / March. These things do happen.

Well step one has happened for me and the funds are back in the account. I look forward with interest as to how 'putting things right' is handled.

Money back too, in exact same amount batches as taken, all marked "mgpKufflink correction (cor)". Anyone got any wise words of wisdom on how to stop it happening again??? apart from closing my bank account.

Would be nice to automatically reject any further payments from MangoPay, but I doubt that's possible. I guess the system relies on payment processors being competent at processing payments, something that MangoPay clearly miserably failed at. Then again it's the first time in my life I've been charged twice for something, so probably not worth worrying too much about.

The fault lies entirely on Mangopay`s side which they acknowledge. The reason for it may well be system failure as detailed another business impacted at exactly the same time with identical time frame of original payments duplicated.
