NATO has pushed to the edges of Russian territories since 1989 - when NATO should have been disbanded just like the Warsaw Pact did. When you're in a hole...
(Is it true what Patton is alleged to have said about getting the other dumb barstool to do all the fighting/dying? How apt a description of our times and NATO's alleged role in fighting Russia from behind a curtain.)

'course, there's the minor issue that all of NATO's (official...) joint military ops have occurred since 1989. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_NATO_operationsNo, they might not have all been perfect, but the world was a better place for the shared interventions and peacekeeping.

Anyone who thinks NATO is anything other than a cover for US Global imperialism (made up of its Vassal states) is living in a different to universe to me. Fortunately for world peace "NATO" and US military imperialism is coming to an end with the whole Ukraine disaster showing that the US has lost its military technological advantage. The US is also basically bankrupt. Time to buy physical gold I think....

I doubt but very few would disagree with that sentiment...

NATO didn't PUSH to the edges of Russian territories. Rather sovereign and democratic countries requested to JOIN NATO. IIRC there was a common factor amongst many, in fact nearly all, those sovereign independent and democratic countries which might have been a factor, but I'm struggling to remember what it is. Oh I remember, silly me. They had spent somewhere near the last 45 or 50 years living under the yoke of communism with in the main Moscow puppet regimes subjugating their populations. The lesson of Czechoslovakia 1968 was no less lost on the likes of Estonia, Latvia, etc. than it was the Czech's. Perhaps they felt their hard won reinstated independence and nascent democractic status would be safer under the umbrella of NATO. Looking at Ukraine and Georgia, and even Belarus, you'd be forgiven for thinking they might have had a point,

If you think the US is going to risk destruction to save say Estonia from the Russians you are delusional - the US ruling class will act out of self interest/preservation. You have to be pretty gullible to swallow the idea that the US is some benevolent force in the world *. * - "To be an enemy of the US is dangerous, but to be a friend is fatal" - Henry Kissinger, US Secretary of State

I did. The Brothers by Kinzer www.goodreads.com/book/show/17286725-the-brothersSome of the reviews give a summary of what's in it, the Dulles brothers. These people never saw a nationalist who they didn't think was a communist, and unleashed chaos and mass killing around the world the repercussions of which we live today. In Iran, for one instance. But the culmination of this was the idiot Bush and his neocon advisers. America First isolationism is the reaction to this series of debacles and you are missing this point, Angry. As for the manifest superiority of Russian arms, when are we going to see that? They seem to be reduced to attacking with golf carts and motorcycles at the moment. Its only time until Russia unleashes... The horse!

angrysaveruk you're dangerously (deliberately?) misquoting / misunderstanding. “Nixon should be told that it is probably an objective of Clifford to depose Thieu before Nixon is inaugurated. Word should be gotten to Nixon that if Thieu meets the same fate as Diem, the word will go out to the nations of the world that it may be dangerous to be America’s enemy, but to be America’s friend is fatal.”

It is a lot like the "Magic Bullet" theory - it is widely used to highlight the ridiculous lies the psychopaths in the US government tell to cover their nefarious actions. I guess in the modern era it is called a Meme.

I wasn't aware that that point needed highlighting. Kissinger would be laughing at you.

I guess in the modern era it is called a Meme. Well no more or less than most other nations more or less. The problem with the middle aged and elderly as are extremely well represented here, is they were brought up on a diet of US=force for good. One thing that gets their back up is to be reminded that the US is the only country in history to drop a nuclear bomb on cities massacring hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians. The US did that. Nobody else. You'd think they'd be a little contrite but no, they have to decide to constantly keep invading other countries. It was for the greater good they'll cry. Try telling that to the families and descents of hundreds of the thousands of people. We won't change any opinions and vice-versa but its always interesting to debate.
