Is there any reason why this bothers you, apart from the fact that it demonstrates a degree of incompetence?

If you have never subscribed, then I cannot see that it should do you any harm for it to not be closed.
Still annoying that they seem unable to do it. If they are saying that this would require developer effort, does this mean that they have never closed one before? That seems to be pretty incredible.

Also it bothers me that on every buy/sell I have to set which account I should use. And another thing, I have far too many accounts scattered everywhere, I'm actively closing down what I don't use.

Indeed, especially when the FSA terms say that they have to be able to do this.

Indeed, especially when the FSA terms say that they have to be able to do this. HMRC ... and if you dig deeper it doesnt actually give any info on actual requirements for closing the account ... the things that have to be stipulated in the t&cs relate to return of funds at an investors request and timescales. Logic dictates that you would close an account once all funds have been removed so its inherent rather than stated. I can see nothing in the legislation on a specific right of closure.

Well posting here did the trick. It turned it from 'it may happen in about a month from asking' into 'it's done now'.
