Bit surprised that I appear to be the one to start a thread on the Statement
Overall, not a bad one for the country, but subjectively, ouch: "The Dividend Allowance will be reduced from £2,000 to £1,000 next year, and £500 from April 2024 and the Annual Exempt Amount in capital gains tax will be reduced from £12,300 to £6,000 next year and then to £3,000 from April 2024."
And extremely subjectively (selfish, if you like), I wish the Gift Aid allowance of £3k would be increased. It's at least 25 years ago that my dutiful patents were each giving me £1.5k for Christmas and another £1.5k for my birthday.
Lots more form filling and data gathering to fill out Capital Gains Tax returns each year (4* allowance means a form filled in each year for selling as little as £12,000 of liable investments). I'm a near-passive stocks & shares investor, but in the next few weeks I'll be looking at funds I've held for decades which (hopefully) have increased in value despite the recent dips and others that have shown a loss, and sell some of them and buy anew. (I'm underweight in US stocks, which seem to be in favour at the moment.)

If a Labour party had proposed this statement some years ago it would have seemed normal. That this statement has annoyed Mogg gives me a certain amount of pleasure

The oddity that still hasn't been addressed (and is ignored by press who erroneously state 45% is the top tax rate) is that the marginal rates goes from 40+2% to 60+2% at £100,000 and only at £125,140 does it go down to 45+2%. The top rate is most certainly not 45%, and it hits at £100,000 not £125,000. UK has the fourth highest top rate in the world (and it hits relatively quickly) and the fourth highest starting rate in the world. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_tax_ratesWe really should find something better than income to tax (yes, land and property, I am looking at you).

I couldn't agree more, the stealth tax that is losing your personal allowance above 100k is a robbery rate which never gets so much as a mention by politicians and press alike. The very fact they claim it's still in the 40% tax bracket is so utterly absurd!

We really should find something better than income to tax (yes, land and property, I am looking at you). Honestly I'm not sure on that one What I think that would do is drive rents up further. Back in the day I was one of few people I knew then or indeed now who support the idea of a per capita tax for infrastructure etc ( the Poll tax ) So I pay £100 a month in council tax as a single person. 3 doors up they pay £160 for 6 adults. next door pays about £133 for 2 adults. their neighbor 3 down pays £0 because they get Pension credit.

Utter bargain your council tax. Mine is £248 per month, only physical service I see is my bin emptied each week. I sincerely hope they dont even think about potential council tax rise this April.

[/quote] Utter bargain your council tax. Count yourself lucky: ours is £310, and only physical service I see is our bins get emptied. Oh, and we have to pay extra on top of that to have our brown bin emptied. Don't even make use of their relatively recently introduced separate food waste collection, as we have had composter for years. So once every 3 weeks general refuse bin and once every two weeks recycling bin.

Ahh but you are kindly contributing towards paying for my daughter who is attending a £48,000 (yes no mistake there) per annum special school just outside the borough. Regarding your contribution to the budget, it would appear you are paying from a band g property as I am. I would therefore count you (and me) as lucky in that regard.

No issue with your neighbour building whatever they fancy on their plot? You won't call the fire brigade if you smell smoke coming up the stairs in the middle of the night? You don't rely on the services of the police to maintain law and order near you? You don't see the point in local children getting an education? Or the ones in care being fed and housed? Poorer elderly neighbours getting the care they need, at home or in a home? Yeh, it's just bins, then.

That's wasted away. No street lights, never see police, bin collecting is not reliable. Thousands wasted on projects that lead to nothing or reports full of bulkshit to con the public and councillors.
Might write a book when I leave. Band F. Neighbours are E for bigger house on farm. Apparently I have a lovely view though 😬

One thing that does need to happen is equality.
For example we get General waste collected every 3rd Week, in some parts of Wales it's fortnightly or even weekly. We have to sort recycling in Cardiff currently it's co-mingled ( all in 1 bag ) They have run a trial of separation in Cardiff, The Public hated it, the result was more general and less recycleables, but the council report recommended pressing ahead.
