Speaking from a recent experience, my encounter with the police after being burgled and having my car stolen was nothing less than a joke.. long story short.. i was conned out of £150 by the police, for agreeing to help with their enquiries, i got my 150 back, and an apology, after writing a letter to both the crime commissioner and the chief inspector.
Personally i have very little faith in policing today, and feel lucky that I'm a man.

In my opinion Police are a necessary evil, in an ideal world we would not need them. You have to ask the question who wants to be a cop in the first place - I think to some people it is just a job and they try their best to uphold the law, but it also attracts people who like power over other people, which unfortunately also means psychos are attracted to their ranks. There is definitely corruption in the police, I knew a bent CID type copper a few years back who ended up becoming a very successful Private Investigator - he was as dodgy as hell - but I think they have made alot of efforts to clean the police up in recent years.

Again long story short... burgled, car pinched, car recovered, car impounded with my permission for fingerprinting, i drop off to the police my spare keys because the robbers have scarpered with the original keys... police inform me their investigations are complete.. i have to pay 150 to the police compound to get my car back. YES IT DID HAPPEN.

It's just part of the insurance claim. unfortunately you are completely wrong.... the car was not damaged in any way, other than a lost set of keys, i made no insurance claim on the car as there was nothing to claim for .. this was a simple situation of the police asking me for permission to inspect my car at their compound to see if they could get any evidence from the car... i was assured that it would cost me NIL FOR THE POLICE TO HAVE MY CAR FOR 4 DAYS. Again this is a long story short... police lies... etc etc ... take it or leave it.. it happened.

Ah, the drip-drip-drip of pertinent information.
That'll be why the bill was cancelled, then.
