I'm going with my partner to the Netherlands in 3 weeks. we have hit a problem Many places don't take credit cards ( not even American Express ) then we hit a problem with debit cards Visa is not accepted in most places nor is mastercard Maestro is preferred I and yes I know Mastercard own Maestro any ideas who does a prepay maestro card Another solution.... leave her behind and go by yourself. We were in Amsterdam a couple of years ago. My missus refused to join me in the "coffee" shop and she went to Starbucks instead, whilst I 'indulged'  . Believe me, I had just as much fun without her, but half the cost!  Credit/debit card acceptance was not an issue anywhere we went. If either of you is into cats, the Amsterdam cat museum is well worth a visit. A bit quirky and different from the norm. It was a surprise for 'er indoors and she absolutely loved it. 👍

Like all others we had no problems with credit cards at all over there anywhere. If you are in Amsterdam best tip is you have to prebook Anne Frank museum and best to prebook Van Gogh as well to avoid queues.

LOL the red light district would have to go some to beat the offers I got last time I was in Bulgaria ( Sunny Beach ), and at the time of getting 2 of the more blatant I was with my wife and daughter

But back to the Netherlands, I went there about 5 years ago armed with a wallet full of Euros. Needed to get a train ticket from the airport into Amsterdam, but none of the machines would take cash, only cards.

we have tickets which were sent as PDF's
when you try to print them the QR code fills a whole A4 page
lots of fiddling to reduce the size

We are going to Maastrict It's worth going to Thermae 2000 if you are there (about 20 mins from centre). Day packages available but check the calendar/swimwear schedule if you're shy about nudity.

Thermae is a famous cafe in the red light area of Bangkok, allegedly frequented by numerous ladies of questionable virtue. I've never been in there, but they tell me prices are reasonable.

Trip went well, lots of smaller shops and cafes with No Mastercard, No Visa, no American express signs most ATMs worked with VISA and or Mastercard Lots of places didn't want to split bills ( I did say twice. to ask at the start before we try at the end, as at times we were a group of 15 + ). We got stung a couple of times asking for water one place charged us €9 a litre, another was on a deal of 3 courses, 3 drinks for €55, again they ordered water and that was counted as one of our free drinks. I did not like the modern art museum, some of the painting nice but the rest garbage, in my view literally. the Grayson Perry sculpture of a boat wasn't bad www.visitmaastricht.com/locations/3925398273/bonnefanten in my view not worth £16 |

I have just checked my credit card statements, only found out the money goes to Uber Eats Amsterdam for my UK order.
Have you tried order Uber Eats in NL? Surely Uber Eats Amsterdam won’t refuse UK cards.

ooh forgot to say Buses and Trains are all run by Arriva, but are on time and clean inside ( unfortunately most are covered in gaffiti outside )
