I agree and it would also seem that those least worthy by simply being around the PM at the time, are more likely to get the honours that are actually worth something. i.e. peerages Those that have really done something worthwhile for their community almost always get the lower type of honour. or by virtue of being donors to the incumbent party. Or supported their side in a particular contentious issue. Peerages have always been open to a fair degree of abuse unfortunately. But some of the recent crop have seemed particularly egregious. And Truss's lot should simply not have been allowed based on time (not) served. £50k to Trussticle's leadership campaign got Jon Moynihan a peerage. I call that good value for him. But the one that really stands out is Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge, former SpAd. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlotte_Owen,_Baroness_Owen_of_Alderley_Edge I wonder what service way above and beyond her job description could possibly have justified such recognition, aged only 29, in Johnson's resignation honours? ...or, allegedly, her mother back in autumn 1992.

It was mentioned on Radio 4 earlier that the Post Office have spent more money on lawyers fighting against the clearing of wrongly prosecuted (sub) postmasters than they have compensating those same (sub) Postmasters. IMHO Ed Davey and Paula Vennells should be giving back their honours although in the latter case the petition to remove it has hit 800,000 signatures. one thing I don't understand, why when Horizon was wrong the Post Office in many cases forced Postmasters to pay they money back ( despite it not really being owed). But the compensation is being paid by the Government ie it is coming from our pockets. "..........the Post Office have spent more money on lawyers fighting against the clearing of wrongly prosecuted (sub) postmasters........"Obviously copied and followed The FCA Rule Book.

I liked this quote about Baroness Owen of Alderley Edge,
According to Alan Rusbridger of Prospect, "There is almost nothing to know about Charlotte Owen. She is a blank sheet of paper. She has done very little of note. She has no discernible views about anything. The sum total of her achievements would barely stretch to the full 280 characters of a tweet".
Its possible of course, that she is actually Boris Johnson's daughter

Her official parliamentary page is a mere dustbunny...and link to the full article from which you quoted here: www.prospectmagazine.co.uk/politics/63063/if-youre-not-upset-by-charlotte-owen-you-should-be Your comment is vile by the way ozboy . Also possibly correct so I'll let you off Edit: She's the spitting image of Jennifer Acuri with less makeup!

Interesting. Who would you nominate if you were an outgoing PM with a sense of the absurd? Your horse or your bike?

Everyone who knew my evil secrets and historic or prospective bed partners. Any spare seats left go to illegitimate offspring.

How did BJ Piffle meet (the current) Mrs Piffle? She was a blonde junior in the office. How did BJ Piffle meet Baroness O? She was a blonde junior in the office. Now, you really wouldn't want (the current) Mrs P to become (the most recent ex) Mrs P, would you, at such a time of career flux...?

I'm watching the public inquiry at the moment. The Post Office investigator giving testimony is not coming across well.

I'm watching the public inquiry at the moment. The Post Office investigator giving testimony is not coming across well. Stephen Bradshaw, a Post Office investigator, is giving evidence.
He claims not to have had any technical knowledge of Horizon, but submitted a witness statement saying it was all working perfectly. When this was queried he said he didn't write his witness statement, it was sent to him by the Post Office solicitors and he just signed it.

so the witness admits to just saying what they were told to say regardless of the truth.
the Horizon guy ( Gareth Jenkins ) is demanding immunity before appearing in front of the enquiry, that is telling as to me what that says is if I tell you the truth I could be prosecuted. I say drag him up and if he refuses to cooperate hold him in contempt.

One class is people (including Bradshaw) who might end up in court, and they are told at the begining of their examination that they have the right to refuse to answer questions if it might incriminate thyem. I guess Jenkins would be using this opt out most of the time.
No immunity, get the bastard in court.
