Had an email just after 11am to say am item sold on ebay
5 minutes later a message from buyer offering me £10 to deliver it 40 miles away from home if I get it to him before 5pm
so I messaged back and said sorry but I'm away from home and i'm currently 200 miles from you
he emailed back and offered to meet me 1/2 way so I only had a 200 mile round trip,
err like I keep all my stock with me. there's no way and I've told him that. that I'm driving 150 miles home, collecting the item, then meeting him at a service station on the M5, then driving the rest of the way back to my sons.
the answer "FINE JUST GET IT IN THE POST TODAY"
I can see this will be trouble, my post office is shut until the 27th, where I live post offices close at lunch time on a Saturday and are definitely not open on a Sunday

I purchased an item the other week and the seller had taken the precaution of adding a "due to a vacation, purchases made after x-date will not be processed until y-date" or something like that.
I presume they were able to update their ebay store / shop / site just once and have it apply to all listings and was useful for me as a buyer to see.
In your case, the buyer should have a bit of an inkling that items purchased on the Saturday of a 4 day weekend might have some longer-than-usual delivery times, but sometimes people really do need to have these things spelled out for them (and probably increasingly so given the 24/7/365 nature of the world we live in).

Even had you been at home, a tenner for an 80 mile round trip wouldn't even cover your fuel. Then there's the wear and tear on your car, tyres, etc, the risk of an expensive breakdown/accident, the loss of your valuable time.... and are you even insured for business use? That might be a useful response in future - sorry, I'm not insured for that and I'm not going to break the law. It's odd that he was prepared to drive the 200 mile round trip to meet you on the M5, but never offered to drive the 80 mile round trip to collect from your home, expecting you to do that for him. People never cease to amaze.

In this example the seller should cancel the transaction citing 'buyer is asking for a delivery method not available on the listing' Apart from all the problems already mentioned;the buyer could open up an 'item not received case' Since the seller would not be able to prove delivery, the buyer would be able to keep the item and the refunded money.

And this is why most large companies offer Robot customer service only. Question I have is would you be a risk of neg feedback if you cancelled the order? Do ebay rules allow it? Do they force you to deal with rude people ? What about stupid people ? Actually scrap the stupid people bit. I'd have no problem if someone asked if I could pop over to America or something to deliver so long as they kept it polite and were fully understanding when you explained it wasn't one of your shipping options.

If I cancel I do open myself up to negative feedback You could always tell him when it's going to arrive (use the estimated date given by eBay) and ask him if he still wants it. Otherwise, just post it. He'll have no reason to leave negative feedback.

If I cancel I do open myself up to negative feedback Would you share roughly what your ebay count is? If in the thousands then presumably you can quite easily absorb the odd cretin and do as baders says ? One reason I'm starting to dislike ebay more and more.

around 3000 so 1 -ve takes it to 99.9 Could be a small business there. Find all the 100%ers with >1000. Buy something then moan something stupid is wrong and demand 20% discount "to secure positive feedback". Probably lots of folk like you too desperate to want to cling on to their unblemished record. I say ditch it so you don't fret too much next time either.

I don't think the original poster has anything to worry about.Unlike the buyer, he has been following the rules.

Like all things in life if a buyer is polite during correspondence then I'm happy to communicate however if they are demanding or rude I just ignore. For the value of the stuff I'm selling I'm not that desperate to make a sale. I once sold a scala rider( bike to bike communication) for £35. Bit of a bargain to the buyer tbh, I've never spent so much time with a rude, to the point imbecile in all my life. I eventually offered him his money back..... then get a message saying thanks it works great as his mate set it up for him..... !! No wonder some sellers give up on ebay.

Message from eBay: "Good news! A buyer has submitted an offer you can't refuse!"
shakedown742: "Say, that's a nice feedback ya got there. It'd be terrible if something ... happened ... to it!"

Our taxman wants more money, could someone explain this.
“Wasting” assets such as cars / gadgets cannot be claimed as allowable losses.
Let’s say someone bought a car for £30k and didn’t like it. The car didn’t clock up any mileage and it was sold it 6 months later for £24k on auction site, how can HMRC see this money as income not losses?

Which reminds me. Not sure if there's a thread on this already: www.gosimpletax.com/blog/hmrc-crackdown-to-target-side-hustle-income-earners/
