What is the difference between old and new forum on TC and why can't tose be consolidated into one? I am trying to find my way around them and it's just as hard as navigating the TC SM.

The Old Forum at ThinCats.Net predates the forum at ThinCats.Com. The forum worked well but there were complaints about needing to login to a separate forum with another password and ID. So about 16 months ago as part of a major upgrade the new forum was created. Unfortunately there were a number of problems: The only way of checking the latest posts without reading the sub forums is by keeping a manual note of the number of postings. The forum opens at the start of each thread and you then have to find the latest posting by paging and scrolling down. Cut and Paste produces unpredictable results and does not work well. Search facilities are limited. The Old Forum is in theory limited to those who have made deposited funds, sponsors and ThinCats management so there tends to be a livelier debate on arrears etc there It was originally hoped that the New Forum would supersede the Old Forum. However this has not happened. ThinCats have announced that they are moving to a version of the Rebuilding Society Software which uses for its forum the same software as the Old forum. Confused – you will be.

It's bonkers isn't it? I.... I was going to write more but my head has filled with expletives.
People should hold their TC conversations here in Independent world. I really enjoyed the previous thread and learned a lot. To think, all that arcane knowledge of pikestaff will be redundant come the REBS based site.

If and only if you look back over the history of the TC forum you will find only one possible occasion where there might have been censorship. In fact it turned out to be c**k up rather than conspiracy with the offending material being reinstated the day after. In contrast 'here' I have occasion where I identified a potential borrower who had an unsavoury business reputation. Despite the report being linked to the BBC the post was deleted. I will continue to post here and abide by the rules but prefer the freedom the two TC fora offer.

Same reason as the 2 Assetz forums(fora) here, one is deemed "public" the other "private, for confirmed TC investors only"

Would you recommend the private AC forum, shimself? I looked idly at the sign up protocol and pfff. I'm wasting too much time on logging into things already. Is there anything rewally interesting there?

Is there anything rewally interesting there? Short answer, yes. When you are asked to vote on action on a distressed AC loan, the discussion will generally take place on the private board. When you are deciding whether to invest in mildly distressed debt (e.g Hackney) the crowd due dilligence is on the private board. When you are deciding which of several wind turbine loans you are going to invest in, the comparison table is on the private board (because it contains sensitive data) The length of time it would take to send an email to AC to gain access would be the same as it took you to type that post. Once you have access the private board is a seamless part of this forum ... so no additional logins to negotiate.

I really enjoyed the previous thread and learned a lot. To think, all that arcane knowledge of pikestaff will be redundant come the REBS based site. Since the REBS software uses the same forum software as the 'old' TC forum, I think there is a good chance (but can't recall whether TC confirmed) that the content of the old forum could/will(?) be moved to the new software. Here's hoping anyway. Certainly sounds entirely feasible.
