Dragging up an old thread, I had a couple of free time extensions to Norton, then I got a trial version of ESET but it was causing trouble in preventing my computer shutting down. After about a week the problem righted itself but I had lost confidence in ESET, so I have now gone for Kaspersky Premium 2 years 1 device for £22 and hopefully Starmers army don't ban it like the USA.

Timely for me as I've just uninstalled AVG Free. I get that its free and perhaps should put up with some nonsense but just got sick of near full screen pop-ups appearing asking me to upgrade when I'm in the middle of an important zoom/teams/webex call.
Might try Avira.....
Edit: Impressed so far even showing me which common apps and updates are old (and thus potentially containing known security flaws).
I'll see how much it bugs me to upgrade over the coming days and weeks
