"New flat-rate tax of £2.20 per 10ml of vaping liquid introduced from October 2026"
BFD, Big f*****g deal.
Research released recently showed that fruity vapes effectively shutdown the immune system in the lungs of mice.

Yeah but I'm allowed to stab myself in the chest with a sharp knife as far as I know or at least cut my ear off with something. So why can't I inhale whatever I want (assuming it doesn't harm anyone else) ?

Well, it's a big deal for me. It effectively increases the cost of vaping (which is the only thing stopping me smoking) by 80%.

I suppose you don't mind voted for them last summer for the unexpected increase for vaping.

I suppose you don't mind voted for them last summer for the unexpected increase for vaping. Had it been in their manifesto I would still have voted for them. The £2.20 feels punitive, punishes those who try to move away from cigarettes (though I accept it will make it more difficult for children to start on vapes, but there are other enforcement mechanisms there that could be employed), and as overthehill 's comment implies is a small enough segment of the population that they can afford to piss them off. It just feels lazy an unhelpful. Still, in the context of the overall budget it's a bit of a nothingburger. I was giving serious thought to trying to get off the vapes myself. I just would have preferred to approach it on my terms, rather than those imposed on me by the government. A lot of small business will go under as a result of this. Oh well.

Fellow vaper here. I smoked for 40 years but moved over to vaping. There is a law about selling vapes to minors, that is what needs enforcement. Is there a tax on glycerine? I was mixing my own. Not using much nicotine componenent anymore.

What would be the total debt when it comes to next GE? A lot more for the next government?

What would be the total debt when it comes to next GE? A lot more for the next government? The next government will be this government. First past the post means that as long as Reform and the Conservatives compete for the same voters, Labour will always win. Unless Labour changes to a fair voting system. Which it is manifestly not in their interests to do.

Will always win? I like your confidence captain. All I want is just a better government can deliver. Not just better, but much much better.

Then there's the mounting evidence that vaping is not actually that healthy an alternative, just "less massively unhealthy". There is a law about selling vapes to minors, that is what needs enforcement. There's a very long list of laws that need enforcement, but everything's spread too thin.

adrianc I don't disagree with any of that. It still feels like I am being punished. Anyway, it's given me a nudge.

Vegetable Glycerine has several uses. The most popular are cosmetics, pharmaceutical drugs and food products. VAT at 20%
Propylene Glycol is also used in cosmetics, pharmaceutical drugs and food products. VAT at 20%
these two are mixed in various ratios depending on how "cloudy" you want your vape, More VG = bigger clouds.
Nicotine concentrate appears to be VAT free, there iv never VAT shown on any of my invoices for it.
Flavor concentrates have VAT at 20%.
A 10ml bottle of vape juice is about 80-100 cigarettes and costs from £1.00 upwards.
Mixing it yourself is much cheaper if you bulk buy the ingredients .
